As we add more cities to the Project Zomboid game, we will talk about them on this page.
And the most important! If you find some anomaly on the map, for example a place where you can’t go, but you should, or you find invisible walls, then immediately inform the developers! Report a problem and help the developers fix it!

How long have you heard something about? But in the meantime, global changes are taking place both in graphical terms and in mechanics! The developers are not standing still and are in no way going to abandon their brainchild, but on the contrary, they are making it even better!

In the near future, we can expect completely new animations, redesigned 3D models, more detailed graphics, a rewritten network component, and a modified food system. Now let's take a closer look.

New animations and 3D models


Perhaps the most important of all the updates is the update to all animations and completely all 3D models, from the character to each of the zombies.

As you can see from the video above, the new system is radically different from the old one; it is more pleasing to the eye. I’ll say more, at first I can’t even believe that this is .

Now there are collisions with zombies, and there are different options: zombies now fall, just like you, if you don’t notice, for example, a fence. Movement has become more similar to real walking - now the character slips less when walking. Much has been updated and redone from scratch, all of which has been in the works since the beginning of 2015. That is why this is the largest update that awaits us in the near future.


Regarding 3D models. The advantage of the rework is that the character is now divided into 2 parts. That is, the animation for the legs and the torso is played separately from each other. This gives you much more options for creating different animations. Also, thanks to the new models, we will see a new clothing system; it is completely different from what it was before.

Now there are headdresses. There are both regular city hats and hats of various city services (police, fire, etc.). You can even see a motorcycle helmet in the video, which is pretty cool. Now you can see various beatings and abrasions on your clothes and body. You can also notice the decomposition into zombies. Thanks to new models, the possibility of adding and dismembering is not excluded.

P.S. Literally the next day after this article was written, a major update was released adding new 3D models! But, unfortunately, there are no animations, so we just have to wait; the appearance of the models was the first step. You can try the update yourself in the test branch of the game!

New graphics


The graphics have also undergone changes, although not as global. There are much fewer pixels, even at maximum zoom they are barely visible. Unlike what happened before, this is a truly joyful event.


Not only the character himself has changed, but also the entire environment. Now each table has become more beautiful and detailed. The event is not so loud, but still pleasant. The update is already available in the test branch of the game.

Metallurgy


Metallurgy will also be added to the game. With it you can craft various tools or, for example, the recently introduced metal shutters for windows. At the same time, iron doors will appear, which will also need to be created. There is not much information on metallurgy yet. The developers are still experimenting and actively communicating with the community.


After the first show of metallurgy to the public, fans gave a lot of advice and corrections. The creators listened and decided to completely abandon bullion. So it’s not even clear yet how everything will be implemented, but work is underway, which is very good.

Creative mode and updated map structure


Creative mode is something that has been needed for a long time. Because the map itself is quite large by standards, but very empty. There are only 2 cities and a small branch. These 2 cities are connected by a road, but there is just a huge empty space between them. The main problem was not the emptiness, but the fact that if you were going to move from one city to another, you would simply die of hunger while you were going.

This is why creative mode is so necessary; users themselves will be able to create and fill out the map. Now this is also possible, but it is quite labor-intensive and tedious. But the tool will definitely be added to the game and will become convenient for regular user. It was rumored that even the developers themselves decided to switch to the new in-game mode to create an improved map.


The update to the structure of the game map is that the creators managed to raise maximum amount floors. Previously there was a limit of 8 floors, now it has increased significantly! The problem was that the entire map was loaded at the same time; if you build more than 8 floors, this would cause wild drawdowns.

Now the entire territory has been divided into chunks, the system is similar. This update is also very important, because players would still have found a way around the 8 floor limit, and after downloading these maps there would have been a lot of complaints about low FPS and just about the game in general. The multi-storey metropolises that fans have been waiting for are, in fact, already real. We just have to wait for the release of the creative mode, and the release is planned already in build 34.

P.S. Now work is underway on a new city, it will be called Louisville! There was information that this is where we will see skyscrapers.

Supply system


Here the updates are not so critical. Many food icons were redrawn, and the food system itself was changed. Now the character does not have to ask you for food every 5 minutes, but everything you eat will be taken into account. A character may feel bad from this or that food, he may even become sad from a monotonous diet.

That is, we complicated the game, making it more realistic. We need to look for more varied food; now we won’t be able to just eat canned food alone. New system You can already evaluate it in the test branch of the game!

Cooperative


The network component has also been changed. The team was very helpful General Arcade, who did most of the work. The developers set the task to optimize the network code and simplify the creation of the server. Because Now the system does not look so simple, in order to play with your company and on your server, of varying degrees of complexity, and it is better to use a LAN simulator.

But it should be so that creating a server is easier, or better yet inside the game with external open console. The connection must be made without any other third party programs, directly through . An internal test is already underway (among developers), and, as they say, so far everything is going well, which means that a mass test will follow very soon.

Optimization


There was a wave of indignation about optimization after the announcement of new animations and 3D models. New detail will require more resources, but the creators themselves refuted all fears by publishing the video presented above.

It is obvious that the game runs in 30 frames with full 3D models, that is, almost at maximum graphics settings. And all this on relatively weak hardware. So no need to worry. There is a chance that the game will perform even better than before.

Other innovations


Much has been added and corrected. For example, it became possible to drag furniture and more. Now you can convert the entire base for yourself or block the street with sofas and bedside tables. It is known that the creators will work on weapons, because... shooting at this point is simply unacceptable, to put it mildly.

A special tool was released called WordZed 2.0. His task is to translate radio or TV programs, this will help the Russian community quickly translate everything that is happening in the world during the apocalypse.

Some of the developers, for example, Turbo, have the habit of working quietly, and then immediately rolling out the finished product for testing. Therefore, a lot of new things are expected, but it is not yet clear what exactly. It can be anything. The only thing that is known from the secrets is that work is underway on objects to fill the city: various barricades, garbage, etc.

The multiplayer mode of the game makes choosing a place to live a little different, since you have much more dangerous enemies - people. Here you need to either hide your home or play with a group and build yourself an impregnable fortress. Fight or die - the choice is yours. But I’ll tell you a secret, you will die anyway. Hunger, disease, zombies, players will help you do this.

First steps

The first step is to search the entire house for useful things. What is most important during an apocalypse? That's right - long-lasting food! You need to take care of it, and eat everything else right away. You will also need at least some kind of weapon.
