General overview of the Nokia PC Suite program. Communication software. Nokia PC Suite Nokia pc suite Russian version

Nokia PC Suite is a popular manager for mobile phones from a famous Finnish brand.

As you know, Nokia devices are different high quality and "indestructibility". That is why many of their owners are in no hurry to exchange their perhaps not the most fashionable means of communication for cool smartphones. And indeed, if you are satisfied with the functionality of the phone, why spend extra money? If you have a decent camera and the ability to surf the Internet, you can safely put off updating your phone for, say, another year.

But to make the most of the functionality of such a device, you will need the Nokia PC Suite utility ( latest version comes without the abbreviation “PC”). By installing it on your computer, you can easily manage everything on your mobile phone - SMS messages, photos, a book with contacts, entries in an organizer.

In addition, you will be able to install applications from the Ovi online service. We hope that, despite the takeover of the mobile division of the Finnish telecommunications industry giant by Microsoft, this AppStore analogue will continue to operate.

At the same time, intentions to discontinue the release of the Nokia line give reason to believe that the distribution and support of the software we are considering will soon cease. Therefore, it makes sense to install it as early as possible.

Possibilities:

  • synchronization via infrared/USB/Bluetooth;
  • access to the Ovi online service;
  • creating copies of any files from your phone;
  • convenient movement of photos, compositions, videos;
  • copying contacts and SMS;
  • Java/Symbian application management;

Advantages:

  • Nokia PC Suite interface - in Russian;
  • opportunity wireless transmission data;
  • clear interface with tile icons;
  • You can download Nokia PS Suite for free.

Things to work on:

  • The program is not compatible with all models (supported from Nokia 2112 to Vertu Constellation Quest).

Users of phones from the famous Finnish brand will make their lives much easier if they understand all the advantages of using Nokia PC Suite and decide to download this useful software for free. After all easy installation various applications (including games), as well as copying SMS and contacts to a laptop or desktop PC - this is exactly what we so often need.

General information about Nokia PC Suite
Today, almost any mobile phone can be connected to a computer or laptop using software, which is offered by the manufacturer of this device. Nokia should be considered one of the pioneers in this area; the developer pays close attention to its Nokia PC Suite software, improving it from year to year. At the time of preparation of the material, it was possible to find a version of the package under the index 6.83 on the Nokia website (http://www.nokia.ru/support/software/pcsuite/download/), it is suitable for any mobile phone Nokia, if the OS installed on the device implies the ability to work with PC Suite. It is not difficult to obtain the program; it is free and, as a rule, comes bundled with a mobile phone. However, if you are not purchasing a new product, but a phone or smartphone that has been on the market for quite a long time, then I recommend taking a look at the above page and using new version software package. Anyone can download it, the volume of the distribution takes about 23 Mb, the software package is Russified, and localization is at a fairly high level.

Computer software requirements.
The OS used, PC Suite occupies about 150 Mb on the hard drive
Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)
Windows XP (Professional or Home edition), (Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2)
Windows XP Professional x64 edition
Windows Vista in x32 and x64 editions

Connection methods
Data cable, and its marking is unimportant, infrared or Bluetooth, to work using the “blue tooth” it is necessary that the following Bluetooth software be installed on the PC.
- Microsoft Windows Bluetooth (included in XP SP2 and Vista)
- Toshiba Bluetooth stack for Windows XP/2000 v 4.0
- WIDCOMM BTW 1.4, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0
- IVT BlueSoleil Bluetooth package for Windows XP/2000, driver version 1.6.1.4 (Nokia Nseries, Eseries and 3250 phones require driver version 2.1.2.0).

Installation
The installation process is simple and does not take much time. If your computer has old version Nokia PC Suite, the wizard will uninstall it and install the latest version. After installation, you may need to restart your computer for the new changes to take effect. While the wizard is working, drivers for Nokia mobile phones will be recorded on the PC, including for fairly old models that are several or even more years old. Therefore, you most likely won’t need to look for drivers for your phone.
After installation and reboot, the Nokia PC Suite icon will appear in the desktop tray. This shortcut will always hang there, it is located in the startup area of OS Windows, you can remove it from the tray in the registry, but then you will have to manually launch the program when connected. The icon is a quick menu that gives access to various utilities. In addition, you can access the program and instructions (pdf format) for working with it from the Start menu.

Immediately after connecting the phone via a data cable, Windows XP/Vista will automatically find new devices and install all the necessary drivers on them. Almost all the latest Nokia mobile phones are in the price range from 5000 rubles. ( typical example, Nokia 6085) can work with the computer in different ways, depending on the user’s choice. After connection, a menu appears on the display in which you can select the operating mode of the device. It usually consists of three parts, two of which are unchanged, and the third changes depending on the purpose of the phone. For example, instead of the synchronization mode with Windows MediaPlayer, PictBridge can be used. The other two modes are: working with the PC Suite software package and data transfer; in the latter case, the radio part is turned off, and the phone memory and memory card are defined by the PC as removable hard drives. If you select this mode, you cannot use Nokia PC Suite. After we choose desired mode work, you can start using the software package.
The mobile phone connection wizard will help with this, offering to configure the type of connection between the device and PC. Working with it is very simple, just select the connection type, and the wizard will do the rest for the user. When working with software via Bluetooth using Widcomm Bluetooth Software, it was noted that before starting the connection wizard (if the phone is connected to the PC for the first time via the “blue tooth”), it is advisable to first pair the phone and PC (enter the required password when connecting, which requires Widcomm Bluetooth Software), otherwise, at least that’s what happened to me, the phone may not be able to detect it, the wizard will let it through.

Nokia PC Suite, dialog box, Extra options
The Nokia PC Suite dialog box consists of a general list of available programs. At the top there are additional settings, including the “File”, “Internet” and “Help” menus. Of greatest interest is the second section, which allows you to “register” a software package on the Nokia website, however, registration means the ability to receive information about available updates to a specified email inbox, although not in Russian; and the ability to order GPRS/MMS/email settings for your mobile phone. Users of 06/07 smartphones should not be interested in getting settings, since this means downloading the SettingWizard program from the developer’s website and installing the SettingWizard program into the device’s memory; on new devices it is included in the set of pre-installed software.

Backup
The first utility for working with the phone is “Backup”, which hides the Nokia Content Copier utility version 4.0. Its meaning is that the user can create a backup copy of all data (contacts, programs, bookmarks, multimedia, Internet settings, etc.) stored in the phone’s internal memory and even on a memory card. But is it worth making a “backup” of information from a memory card? After all, the contents of the card can be easily copied to a computer using file manager, but if they offer it, why not take it?
After starting the program, the user can copy or restore data.

Three devices were taken for testing: Nokia 6670, Nokia 6290 and Nokia E65. The memory of the Nokia 6290 was occupied by 15 MB of various data; a copy of the data was created within 87 seconds, which is not that long. It took 203 seconds to create a “backup” from a memory card (a 128 Mb card was used, 24 Mb was occupied on it). The created files have the extension *.nbu.

Using the code *#7370#, through which the smartphone is returned to its original state, allowed me to check how the reverse process was going. And it happens without a hitch, 4 minutes and all the information is in the smartphone, and you can choose which type of data can be restored and which is not worth it, saving time and free space. The created backup copy can be written to any Nokia mobile phone.

Synchronization
The ability to store contacts from a mobile phone's address book on a PC is one of the most important functions of such software. This is what most users use, paying little attention to other utilities. In the software package under consideration, these functions are performed by Nokia PC Sync.

Nokia PC Suite can synchronize data with the following programs: MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Organizer 5.0/6.0, Lotus Notes 5/6/7.x. I synchronized with address book MS Outlook.

When the phone and PC are synchronized for the first time, a wizard is launched that allows you to configure operating parameters, they include: selecting a program for storing information, determining the type of data that needs to be saved (contacts, calendar/to-do items, notes and bookmarks, in the latter case, when they transfer from PC to phone, bookmarks from IE or Mozilla FareFox are copied; other alternative browsers are not supported). In addition to the basic settings, there are also additional parameters, which I will not list; I invite readers to look at the screenshots; I will only briefly note that the correct settings can save a lot of time in the future.

After synchronization is complete, you can view a report of what changes were made.

Nokia PC Sync works according to the following principle: data from a mobile phone is transferred to Outlook and back, and almost all information fields remain unchanged, but “practically” this is not “all”. Unfortunately, Nokia PC Suite and MS Outlook are not group friendly. Information about groups is not transmitted. The reason is that in MS Outlook, groups are categories, and if categories are present in the address books of devices on OS Windows, then in Nokia, alas, they are not. However, groups are not so bad. The real problem is when data about the ICQ user's number and other information that is recorded on the contact are lost.
When transferring data from a PC to a phone, you may also encounter the fact that the mobile phone number that is recorded in the Outlook card under the number “Other” (there may be other “unlucky” field names, but for some reason I come across it all the time) often refuses to be copied, and then cannot be found in the device’s memory.
The program doesn't care what recording format is telephone numbers used by the user: through "8" or through "+7". All contacts, except those recorded in “Other”, are recorded in the device’s memory. It is worth noting that graphic images that are attached to the contact are also transmitted.
Throughout my time working with Nokia PC Suite, I noticed that the success of synchronizing a computer and a phone directly depends on what OS is used in the device, if this OS is Symbian, especially the latest version, then everything will go quite smoothly, if this OS Series 40 is the first or second edition, then you won’t have any problems. First of all, this is the loss of telephone numbers or the loss of letters in names, then duplication of telephone numbers. With the third edition of Series 40 there are much fewer of these problems, but they are still noticeable.
During the transfer of calendar data, it is quite rare to encounter the loss of part of the information (either a letter is missed, or the time on a reminder has not been transferred), generally there are no complaints.

Internet connection
Utility One Touch Access performs the same actions as the standard network connection that comes preinstalled with Windows desktop software. However, it looks much better, in addition, all the necessary settings can be made in the appropriate section (login, password and connection number), including specifying an additional initialization line, which in Windows you have to look for in the modem settings. The program also has preset settings for domestic mobile operators, but they differ from those used in some regions, so they did not help me, I had to enter them manually.

Installing applications
Nokia Application Installer allows you to install new programs into your phone memory or memory card, and this is done in a few mouse clicks. Select in the left window the necessary program, click on the “Download” button, and for many devices selecting the memory type in the program does not make any sense, since the installation process is controlled on the mobile phone screen. During installation (either an application with a *.sis extension or a java midlet), the user is free to choose the type of data storage.

File Manager
This is Nokia Phone Browser, which plays the role of a file manager; it could be called an analogue of a regular file manager (or an analogue of the “data transfer” mode), if not for two “buts”. First and second: the browser allows you to work with contacts and send text messages, duplicating the “Contacts” and “Messages” items.

Before opening the list of contacts, the device downloads them from the phone within a few seconds. Using the browser, you can edit entries in the phone book and immediately save them to the phone's memory.

When creating a new contact, the owner is greeted not only by the colorful interface of the program window, but also by an extensive set of additional information fields, the abundance of which causes surprise at first; you won’t even get such generosity from Outlook. Here you can personalize your contacts by adding only a picture to them (the picture can be of any size, the image will be automatically scaled); you cannot add a ringtone.

Messages are represented by four items: outgoing, sent, received, and drafts. However, writing a message is easy and simple; you need to select the appropriate item in the browser. The form of a new message consists of two blocks: a number block and a text block; you cannot attach any additional elements (graphics or sound). Sending a new message is carried out via a connected mobile phone.

You cannot send multimedia messages using this version of the software, since the corresponding utility called Nokia Multimedia Factory is not included.

View media files or Nokia Multimedia Player
It can be called a real omnivorous player, since it can work with any type of multimedia content, but for the most part it is not worth using.

The selection of supported files is carried out in the settings, their number directly depends on the codecs installed on the PC, however, I frankly didn’t like the fact that when you select a format, the player becomes the main program in which this type of file will be opened by default. Nokia, you still need to be a little more modest. You can create your own playlists, save and edit them (music - *.m3u, video - *.npl), and one list can contain both audio and video files.

Nokia Multimedia Player understands almost all video formats, and automatically scales the size of the player window to the video resolution. The utility allows you to convert video files to 3gp format with the click of one button. True, the program shows an anachronism of past times - you cannot change the resolution of the video, as well as the quality of the file, the first will always be 128x96 pixels, and the second the worst. It's time for the Finns to provide the user with more options when encoding, otherwise in this parameter the player is inferior even to simple small utilities designed to work with 3gp files.
Using the utility, you can also view images, but the usual program for viewing images and faxes in Windows does this with higher quality, better and more interesting.
Communication with music files follows exactly the same principle as with video, except that Nokia Multimedia Player does not allow you to change music tracks. It is not suitable as a main music file player, since it does not even have a banal equalizer.

Thus, this application is only interesting for watching video files from a PC.

Saving an image
This section hides the Nokia Image Store application, through which you can transfer all video files and images from the phone’s memory to a folder specifically selected by the user on the PC. File transfer occurs quickly and without any problems. The only peculiarity of this application is its convenience, since all actions are carried out in a couple of mouse clicks. The user gets rid of the need to use the browser to navigate through sections of the phone or memory card in search of photos and video files.

Nokia Image Store settings include the ability to: enable automatic copying of media data when you connect the phone to a PC (in this case, all files will be immediately copied to the selected folder), delete overwritten files from the phone memory or leave them untouched, and also worth You can immediately view the received data using Nokia Multimedia Player after synchronization.

Transfer music
Nokia Music Manager is responsible for this action. The program is not bad, as it has diverse functions. First of all, it acts as a song viewer for further downloading to the phone. Just select the section with music and then check the boxes for those files that will be downloaded to your mobile device. At the same time, the program understands mp3, aac, m4a, m3u file types. You can also use it to create a playlist and then transfer it to your phone.

While transferring files, you can convert selected songs to aac/aac+/mp4 format - this is the second option that the program offers.

In addition, it can act as a music player, of course, in terms of its functions it is far from the same as Winamp, but it offers a convenient interface. True, it supports Russian tags only in Unicode format.

Manage connections
Select the type of connection between the mobile phone and the PC.

Phone software update
Probably one of the most interesting features that Nokia PC Suit offers is the ability to independently update your mobile phone software. When selecting this section, the user will automatically be redirected to the company's support page, from where it is necessary to download the Nokia Software Update program (installation file size - 23 Mb); if it is already installed on the computer, it will automatically launch.

You can flash your phone using any cable, including a non-original one. In an attempt to perform this operation on the 6290, a regular cable from a digital camera was used. Before flashing the firmware, you need to make sure that the battery charge is full, or it’s better to play it safe and turn on the charger, and don’t forget to create a backup copy of the data; after flashing the device, the device will be pristine.

The principle of operation of Nokia Software Update is as follows, the Finns call it “three steps”, and it is necessary that the PC be connected to the Internet. Step one - the phone is determined, step two - the program checks the Nokia web resource to search for updates, if there are any, then you can carry out the flashing process, and this is the third step. It is curious that the program does not work with all phones; it refused to work with the old Nokia 6670. In addition, for some mobile phones Nokia flashing will be carried out in the “data transfer” mode, the manufacturer honestly warns about this in the Russian-language instructions.

The firmware is downloaded via an Internet connection and weighs quite a lot; for example, for the Nokia 6290, the software update took 69 Mb. Therefore, a high-speed connection is necessary. Installing all the updates takes about 20 minutes, then you can use the mobile device again, downloading, of course, the saved “backup”.

Conclusion
Nokia PC Suite is a set of diverse utilities that allow you to do whatever your heart desires with your device. It seems to me that of the entire set of functions, the greatest interest is generated only by the ability to work with phone book and organizer data, as well as flashing mobile device However, we should not forget about a number of disadvantages that cannot be avoided. However, they are not so significant as to spoil the overall pleasant impression of the work.
The only thing that cannot be avoided, especially for many devices based on the Series 40 of the first two editions, is the loss of information about contacts; here you just have to “grind your teeth” and endure.
As for the ability to change the phone's software yourself, this is a strong move on Nokia's part. Yes, other manufacturers offer to update their phone’s software “over the air,” but none of them have implemented this feature in a software package, and changing the firmware is indeed convenient, fast and requires only a couple of mouse clicks from the user. It is this simplicity that lies at the heart of the work. software package, so that any user can not rack his brains and understand the program, but immediately start working with it.

Program interface: Russian

Platform:XP/7/Vista

Manufacturer: Nokia

Website: www.nokia.com

Nokia PC Suite- this, as the name already implies, is a specialized application for Nokia phones, smartphones and communicators for synchronizing these devices with a computer and various applications that are not available for use with normal connection via high-speed USB, infrared or Bluetooth wireless technology.

Key features of Nokia PC Suite

The most important purpose of Nokia PC Suite is that with the help of this program you can thoroughly view the contents of your phone that are not available for viewing with a USB connection (without installed program). Here you can use phone book, messages, view call logs, pictures, music, call tones (in some versions, even edit them) - in general, everything that can be done on the phone itself. However, on a computer such editing becomes much more convenient and faster.

The undoubted advantages of the program include its functionality in the field of working with the Internet and using third party applications. By setting up the program once and using your phone as a GPRS modem, you can easily connect to World Wide Web. Of course, the data transfer speed will not be as high, say, as when connecting to local networks, but for those who do not have such an opportunity, this will be a huge plus. In addition, it is worth noting the presence of OVI services, where you can find anything you want - music, video, weather, books, applications, etc. In addition, you can create backups data for quick subsequent recovery.

Almost all models of Nokia smartphones mean modern smartphones and communicators, until recently worked under the control operating systems Symbian family, the difference was only in the versions of the operating systems themselves. Here, too, you will find a wide field of installation activities Symbian applications and Java to your phone directly from your computer, using, say, not .sys installation files, but standard computer files like Setup.exe. This is very convenient and saves a lot of time, especially when there is nowhere to download the native installation file.

In some ways, this program resembles the version specifically for Nokia OVI Suite smartphones. However, the advantage of this software product is obvious. It lies in the fact that it works not only with smartphones, but with ordinary Nokia phones, which do not have operating systems on board at all. And even when working with a regular telephone, many of the functionality becomes available, as when working with communicators.

In general, I must say, Nokia PC Suite is a really high-quality product for working with both a phone and a computer. At its core, it provides enormous opportunities for synchronization. Among the advantages, it is worth noting that, for example, the built-in video/audio player can work autonomously and independently of the phone connection. That is, you can watch videos and listen to music directly in Windows environment without using, for example, Media Player.

And most importantly, the program works regardless of what phone model is used. That is why it is so universal. The only pity is that it can only be used with models from this manufacturer.

Nokia PC Suite is legacy software for syncing and sharing data between your Nokia phones and personal computer. On this moment The Nokia PC Suite utility itself is not supported by Nokia and its latest version is currently 7.1.180.94. The utility contained sets of useful drivers for all types of phone connections: Bluetooth, WLAN infrared port and USB cable.

Nokia PS Suite allows you to “upload” images and ringtones to your mobile phone, edit your contact book, download and install all sorts of Java applications. With this set of tools, you can view multimedia messages, use your mobile phone as a modem (if this function is applicable), and more.

With Nokia PC Suite you can easily get up to speed. A step-by-step software wizard will provide the necessary information on connecting the phone to the PC. Installing Nokia PS Suite will not actually disturb the user himself. You will gain access to the main functions of the application by familiarizing yourself with the large and bright buttons of the main menu of Nokia PC Suite. The most “popular” functions of this program among users are data recovery and backup, as well as file transfer. Working with these tools does not cause any problems.

However, special attention in the Nokia PS Suite program should be paid to additional functions: synchronizing the calendars of your mobile phone and PC, installing Java applications on your phone, converting ringtones to various formats, the ability to send SMS from a PC and other interesting things.

As a result, for any owner of a Nokia device free program PC Suite will become an indispensable friend and comrade.

Main advantages of Nokia PC Suite:

  • synchronization of mobile phone and PC (the ability to work with an infrared port, Bluetooth or simply via a USB cable);
  • the ability to create backup copies of files directly from your phone;
  • upload pictures, melodies and video files to your phone;
  • edit your phone book;
  • install Java and Symbian applications;
  • ability to view and delete SMS/MMS;
