Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus review: metallic and inexpensive. Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus review: metallic and inexpensive Lenovo K5 plus update

Over the past couple of years, the budget smartphone market has begun to look much more interesting than before. Chinese manufacturers now manage to make devices several times cheaper than A-brand flagships, but with very interesting design and quite sufficient performance. Of course, this also affects competition in the segment. Users now want to get a device that is not just cheap, but also functional. Today in our review we will see if it worked out at MWC 2016 Lenovo smartphone VIBE K5 Plus competes with rivals.

Equipment and first impressions

The smartphone is sold in the usual Lenovo two-color packaging. The delivery set consists not only of the device, charger and headphones, but is also supplemented by a protective film for the display and a transparent plastic cover. Those who are very worried about the safety of their gadget will not have to spend extra money on these accessories. True, the fit of the case is not perfect, but you shouldn’t demand more from the complete accessory of a budget smartphone. It will cope with its function.

My first impressions of the K5 Plus were a bit spoiled by problems setting it up. Restoring from recent backup copy nothing came of it. Well, okay, it happens. But even when setting it up as a new device, there were minor problems: the application loading would freeze, or for some reason Wi-Fi reasons turns out to be turned off - in general, I only managed to install and configure all the applications I needed the third time. Fortunately, there were no other surprises. I would like to hope that this is a problem only with our test sample, and the upcoming software updates will overcome these troubles.

Design and usability

Externally, VIBE K5 Plus does not stand out among most ordinary smartphones. The user can choose between white and gold body design options. In India, for example, there is a black case, but there is no such option on the Ukrainian website of the company. We received a white sample for review (only the front panel is white). The back cover is removable, it is made of aluminum, but there are plastic inserts on the top and bottom. The lid smoothly transitions into the sides of the device, which are separated from the display by a shiny edging.

The size, materials and shape of the case do not combine well; the smartphone is slippery and using it with one hand is not always convenient. Of course, it will fit into a large palm without such problems, but it will still remain slippery. The included cover does not greatly affect slippage, but also slightly increases the dimensions. So before buying, you should definitely go to the store and spend a little time with the device. In numbers, the dimensions of the gadget look like this: 142 x 71 x 8.2 mm, the weight of the structure was 150 grams.

The body is collapsible, back cover completely removable for installing SIM cards and a memory card (you can install two operator cards in a smartphone and add microSD in separate slots, and not, as is now fashionable, make the second slot a combined one, for one thing at a time). Despite the removable “back”, special problems does not occur in operation. The fasteners hold the lid tightly and do not make any extraneous sounds.

All controls are located on the right side, the left side remains empty. At the bottom end there is only a hole for the speaking microphone; a headphone jack and microUSB are placed on top. On back, except the main camera with flash and additional microphone, brought out two main speakers. In front above the display there is a speaker, camera, proximity and light sensors; Below the display there are three touch buttons without backlight.

The smartphone looks, subjectively, not bad, but there is nothing special about its appearance. There were only two things I didn’t like: the speakers are located where they overlap with your fingers while playing games and watching videos, which, accordingly, leads to sound distortion; The location of the microUSB connector on top is not the best; using the device with the cable connected is inconvenient. Otherwise, if the dimensions of the case suit the user, then there should not be any global problems in use.

Display

The front panel of the smartphone has a 5-inch display with Full HD resolution. The pixel density is 440 ppi - a remarkable number of pixels for such a diagonal. The IPS matrix shows a quite nice picture. Viewing angles are good. There is a reading mode that applies a yellow filter to the screen. It is also possible to manually adjust saturation and color temperature.

The budget phone also has a light sensor, but its performance leaves much to be desired. In the sun the picture remains readable, but protective glass glares a lot. The oleophobic coating works as it should. There are no complaints about the accuracy of the sensor. Recognizes the display up to 5 simultaneous presses.

The calibration is not ideal, but even when directly compared with flagship devices, the picture does not disappoint - not in all cases before top smartphones there were such good screens. The only thing the display was seriously lacking was a polarizing layer. But you hardly expect to see this in inexpensive device. In general, such a display will be enough for an unpretentious user. According to subjective feelings, the screen is very good for everyday use.

Sound

The company calls sound one of the strongest aspects of the smartphone. On the rear panel there are two speakers with support for Dolby Atmos technology. As expected, these are not the best speakers on the market, they are far from the level of HTC or Moto X Style, but they are clearly one of the strongest in their class. The volume is quite high, the user can comfortably watch videos on YouTube, be it a video blog, a movie trailer or Music clip. The only complaint is the location. The speakers are often covered with your fingers while playing games and watching videos, and in a vertical position they are completely covered with your palm, and the sound is distorted.

The speaker and microphone do their job well. The included headset is uncomfortable and sounds frankly cheap, but if you use good headphones, then the sound is enough. The signal, of course, is far from ideal, but for most users it will be enough.

Cameras

There are some interesting cameras in today's budget phones, and the K5 Plus is no exception. The 13-megapixel sensor allows you to take pretty good pictures. Compared to flagship cameras, of course, the difference is significant, but in good daylight the user will be able to get a satisfactory shot. It will probably take a few tries, but you can get an acceptable photo. Video recording is carried out at a maximum of 1080p, but the recording quality leaves much to be desired when there is poor lighting around. Like all cameras, this one will need a lot of light, otherwise detail will drop and unwanted artifacts will appear. At night, when the street lights are on, the photos will be blurry and with a clear miss in white balance.

The biggest problem is not even the quality of pictures in poor light, but the speed of operation. The camera takes a relatively long time to start up - you won’t be able to quickly take your smartphone out of your pocket and immediately take a normal photo. But the camera app is simple and intuitive. For fans of built-in effects, the K5 Plus has this option.

The front camera has a 5 MP sensor. In fact, like the main camera, this one will need a lot of light, otherwise the picture will come out soapy. This effect is further enhanced regular means retouching But it is worth mentioning that we are talking about a budget smartphone, and for its price these cameras are quite good.

Hardware platform and software

Inside the Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus there is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, an Adreno 405 video core, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM with the ability to expand using a memory card (up to 32 GB). From wireless interfaces The only thing missing was NFC, but there was support for 4G networks. In tests, the results, quite predictably, are not record-breaking. The smartphone heats up within a comfortable range when playing games, but during simpler tasks the heating is practically not felt.

As I already wrote, at first the smartphone worked with errors, which negatively affected first impressions. Then things got better, but sometimes there were still slight delays and jerking animations. Alas, there is no stable smooth operation of the interface and applications. When actively working with multiple tasks, when you need to quickly switch between different applications, this is especially noticeable. On the other hand, these problems do not appear that often.

The gadget works under Android control 5.1.1 with the proprietary Vibe UI interface. Externally, the launcher is unlikely to appeal to all smartphone users. Some special ones useful functions he doesn't have. Fortunately, using any other UI design option is not difficult. Subjectively, pure Android would be much better suited here. Perhaps this would have a positive effect on the overall performance of the device. I really hope that such hiccups in work are a problem with the test sample.

Autonomy

The removable 2750 mAh battery can last a day with a very active usage pattern - in other words, you can count on 4 hours of screen time. Of course, serious gaming or navigation will affect this figure. My smartphone could show 3.5-4.5 hours of working display. A big bonus in this case is the ability to replace the battery, which is much more convenient than any power bank. So the user should not have any critical problems with autonomy.

Site evaluation

Pros: display; sound; equipment; removable battery; price

Minuses: not the best ergonomics; minor hiccups at work

Conclusion: Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus is already available in Ukrainian retail at a price of about $200. For this money, the user will receive an extended package with protective cover and display film, some of the best speakers in its class and a large good screen. It’s difficult to list the device’s cameras as pros or cons, but they exist, and under suitable conditions they will not be superfluous. The only thing that bothered me was some slight hiccups with performance. The biggest problem for the K5 Plus will be its competitors: there are ASUS, Xiaomi, Meizu and other well-known brands. They will have better design, some have higher performance and bonuses in the form of better cameras, fingerprint scanners and more.

This article will be of interest to those who are concerned about purchasing a new smartphone from the mid-price segment of the market. You are presented with plus, characteristics, reviews of performance and simply appearance which are quite good. We are sure that after reading it you will definitely decide for yourself whether to take it or not.

Basic equipment

The device is sold and supplied in small sizes a box made of hard and dense cardboard, onto which images of the smartphone itself and other markings are accurately transferred. The cover, surprisingly, fits quite tightly, which gives us hope that when transporting the phone, for example, by mail or delivery service, if you order the phone through an online store, your purchase will remain safe and sound.

After removing the cover, you will see the screen of your new gadget, covered in a protective film. Additionally, the gadget has a so-called “Case” - a protective cover made of thin matte plastic on the back wall of the smartphone. This is undoubtedly pleasing, since in addition to the phone, you also get a bonus, albeit simple, but still a case that can protect your new pet from unpleasant scuffs and scratches. Taking out the phone, you will find that it was located in a small “tray” made of cardboard, which can now be removed after removing the device.

The pallet also serves as an envelope for documentation, so don't rush to throw it away. On the “bottom floor” of the box you will find a screen protector, a Micro-USB cable, a headset with a built-in microphone and a one and a half amp USB adapter for connecting the phone to the mains.

Appearance

The first thing that catches your eye and the first thing you want to discuss is how the smartphone looks. Externally, the smartphone is not much different from similar models and is even somewhat lost among its motley brethren. However, its appearance is not without grace in its simplicity. As far as we know, the smartphone is produced exclusively in white and gold colors, but there is definitely information that the device can also be found in black on the Indian market. What is the reason for such a paucity of coloring and the inaccessibility of the black case specifically for the Russian/Ukrainian market remains unknown.

Design

If we talk about the design solutions applied to this smartphone, then first of all let’s mention the dimensions:

  • Length - 142 millimeters.
  • Width - 71 millimeters.
  • Thickness - 8.2 millimeters.
  • Weight - 150 grams.

As you can see, in terms of dimensions the smartphone is practically not inferior to the same Samsung Galaxy j 7.

On the front side there is a five-inch diagonal screen with Full HD resolution. At the bottom, at the base, there are three touch buttons for control, and at the top there is a speaker, front-camera and proximity and lighting sensors.

On the right side of the case there are buttons for controlling the volume and turning the phone on/off. On the top edge, according to the standard, there are ports for charging and “Jack”. At the back there are the usual ones: a camera, a flash and two speakers at the base.

Nutrition

Let's look at it now specifications plus regarding nutrition. Energy is supplied via a 2750 milliampere/hour battery. Alas, this battery capacity is not quite enough. With not very active work, the charge lasts, at best, for a day. During active work, correspondingly, less.

Lenovo k5 plus dual: electronics characteristics

No matter what people say about the phone being a fashion accessory, the most important thing is still under the hood. No one will argue with this. Lenovo K5 plus, whose characteristics are very modest compared to its more formidable brothers, has in its arsenal a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor with eight cores, which, according to some reports, work in a 4x4 combination. That is, 4 cores are more powerful, the main ones, 4 are auxiliary. In addition, the system uses an Adreno 405 video processor.

Lenovo vibe K5 plus a6020a46: memory specifications

The memory used by the phone for various needs is also important. If we talk about the amount of memory built into this phone, then Lenovo K5 plus characteristics does not show above high level: 2 gigabyte random access memory, ensuring the speed of the system.

16 gigabytes of built-in storage memory, of which approximately 10.5-11 gigabytes are available. At the same time, it is possible to increase its number with a MicroSD card. Its maximum capacity should be no more than thirty-two gigabytes.

Audio and camera specifications

Now let's talk about the camera characteristics, since many people choose a phone for their own needs, referring to this component. So, have Lenovo phone vibe K5 plus specifications are as follows:

  1. Looking ahead a little, the sound of this model is not the best, but for phones of this price category very tolerable. As already mentioned, the Lenovo K5 plus, whose characteristics are very average, is not the best phone in the world, so you should not expect perfect sound from it. Two speakers on the rear panel provide you with sound that is not jarring, so you can listen to music or watch videos quite comfortably. The only serious complaint is the location of the speakers. They are built in such a way that when held vertically they are blocked by the palm, and when held horizontally by the fingers, which affects the sound quality. As for the conversational speakers, they work much better, but still the difference is noticeable in comparison with more expensive models. The same can be said about the headphones included in the kit. They don't shine with quality, so music lovers will either have to put up with cheap sound or buy good headphones separately. Overall, the sound of this phone is slightly below average, which is pricing policy very, very wonderful.
  2. Now the most important point for phone photographers. The Lenovo K5 plus has low specifications for both cameras, the main one and the front one, but for the money paid for this phone, it would be stupid to expect more. It sounds scary, but in reality we get 13 megapixels on the main camera and 5 on the front one. Frankly speaking, it’s not enough for a full-fledged camera, but in order to periodically take a couple of photos without particularly worrying about ideal quality, it’s quite suitable.

Both cameras are unfortunately very sensitive to light. In uniform daylight, the frames can still claim to be good, but if you shoot in the dark, or even worse, in bright artificial lighting, be it lamps in a dark room or streetlights in a city at night, be prepared that the frames will be blurry and the color rendition will be blurred. will be unnaturally white. This is such a special feature of this device.

Conclusion

Now you can form your own opinion regarding the phone presented in this article. Undoubtedly, this smartphone is good in its segment of budget smartphones, and it feels confident there, but the choice whether to buy it or not is yours. It all depends on your requirements for such a mobile device.

On February 21, at the Mobile World Congress 2016, Lenovo introduced two new smartphones: K5 and K5 Plus. The new items can definitely be called not just brothers, but siblings, since the similarity in characteristics is 90%, only one of them is a little older, and even then not by much. Let's see the details.

Differences

Smartphones, to put it mildly, do not differ much in their technical characteristics and parameters. There are only two main differences: displays and processors, and the rest is absolutely identical. Both new products have a five-inch screen and support for Dolby Atmos technology, which allows you to reveal all the facets of the sound of your favorite music. If you acquire relevant and correctly compiled content, then it will be generally good.

External speakers (yes, there are two of them) play loud enough (above average) and with high quality. Still would! What else with Dolby Atmos support?

Detailed specifications of Lenovo K5 and K5 Plus

Both gadgets have a 2750 mAh battery and, according to the manufacturer, talk time on the 2G module is up to 32 hours, 3G – up to 15.1 hours, standby time up to 322 hours. Of course there is support LTE networks. There is 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 32 GB using Micro SD memory cards. Both new products have support for 2 SIM cards Micro format and run on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

There was no regular version (VIBE K5) at the company's stand. There was only K5 Plus. Already from this indirect sign we can conclude that the model without the “plus” prefix is of no use and there is no reason to be released. Later, I will explain why, but for now let’s take a closer look at the device and the short, but still user experience.

Design

Externally, the smartphone is nothing special.

The design is the most common and there are simply a huge number of similar smartphones on the market. Personally, the new product reminded me of something that was already a thing of the past. Samsung Galaxy Star Plus GT-S7262.

White, plastic, strongly protruding chrome frames around the perimeter of the front side.

Above the screen there is a standard set of front elements: a 5 MP camera, sensors and a speaker.

At the bottom there are touch-sensitive system control buttons. They are not backlit.

At the back, the device has a metal cover and plastic inserts at the top and bottom. All this is very boring and we have seen it more than once from a variety of companies.

System and performance

The device runs on Android 5.1 OS. Since the new product is completely new and many manufacturers are already installing Android 6.0 (the latest series of devices from LG, for example), the release of new devices with an outdated operating system is a strange step. However, the shell and software are well optimized.

The animation flies, switching between applications does not slow down - everything is fine with this.

In AnTuTu K5 Plus scores about 35 thousand points. Not a bad result, but not a breakthrough at all. The most important thing is that the device does not behave like a budget defect and works quite stably.

Cameras

It was decided to install a front module of 5 and a main module of 13 megapixels in the device. The lighting at the stand wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t a total disaster either, so the smartphone had a chance to show off its photography capabilities.

It's nice that he coped with the test. The photos are of quite decent quality, a good level of detail, no problems with autofocus, and so on.

The only thing that confused me were the mistakes he made auto mode when setting the exposure. Out of about 20 frames, I left only seven. The rest were either overexposed, or the system made a mistake when setting the white balance. In general, if you're going to shoot with the K5 Plus, take a few shots at a time. By the way, this is a general rule that applies to any photographic equipment, even if it is reflex camera.

Bottom line

Both new products are available in three colors: platinum silver, champagne pink and graphite gray. The company showed only silver, the most versatile options. I haven’t seen the rest, so I can’t say anything about them.

Let's move on to the most interesting part - cost. Firstly, Lenovo K5 Plus price will be $149 (approximately 11 thousand rubles). For the money, even if it doesn’t look good, the smartphone is still very good. Doesn't slow down, new platform (Snapdragon 616), good cameras.

Everything seems to be fine. However, there is a second thing. This is the price for regular version Lenovo VIBE K5. It is $129 or about 10,000 rubles. What?! You pay an extra thousand rubles (maybe one and a half) and get a Full HD screen instead of a weak HD and a more powerful processor. Where is the logic?! Why was it necessary to release the younger version at all, when from a technical point of view it is noticeably inferior to the older one, and the difference in price is very small? I don't have an answer to this question

However, both phones will be available in select countries in March. Nothing is known about Russia. If the smartphone goes on sale, it will be by the summer.

Release date: March 2016 (worldwide) Price: $129 and $149

Review of Lenovo K5 Plus A6020A46. At the beginning of 2016, at the MWC 2016 exhibition held in Barcelona, Lenovo presented its new budget smartphone entitled Lenovo Vibe K5 and its “big brother” Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus.

The packaging is simple. Along with the smartphone in the box there are: battery, Charger, microUSB cable and documentation set. Also, depending on the sales region, the kit may include: a wireless headset, a protective film and a plastic bumper.
