But what you can’t take away from the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is its compactness. Apart from the hinge itself, which houses the battery, the tablet is very thin. It is convenient to hold the device by the hinge itself - you get a sort of grip, like on a camera.

The frame around the screen can be visually called wide (in Lately manufacturers are trying to make it smaller and smaller), but thanks to its width, the tablet is comfortable to hold in your hand.

Speaking about design and construction, I can’t help but dwell in detail on the leg. The first time I tried to open it, I thought I was going to press my finger through the screen. The same is true if you hold the tablet in your hands: in a horizontal position with two hands or in a vertical position with your right hand. Convenience is questionable, in general.

But the power button, on the contrary, is conveniently located, and is also inscribed in an original way - at the end of the hinge. It is simply unrealistic to press it by accident, but on purpose, the button is pressed easily and pleasantly.

On the opposite side of the hinge is a headphone jack. In practice, this turned out to be no less convenient, and in any position of the tablet.

The volume buttons are located on the left side, above the power key. Visually, this is a standard dual regulator; functionally, there are differences from everything seen in other tablets and smartphones. The difference is that when you rotate the tablet, the purpose of the buttons changes; they seem to change in functionality. I don't know if this is good or bad. Personally, I still forget about such jokes from the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 and quietly argue with it.

The microUSB connector is standard, the manufacturer did not experiment with it in any way. Located between the power button and volume control.

Everything is funny with the indicators: I turned them on in the settings, but I couldn’t see the blinking. Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 ignored all letters, all messages and other events. This is very strange for such a seemingly detailed device, but it’s true.

I was only able to notice that the indicator was working at all by connecting the tablet to the charger and the laptop - at the same time, it very cheerfully blinked with the LED “rim” around the power button.

What about the screen?

As I already wrote at the very beginning, Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is interesting to a large extent for its screen. In terms of technical characteristics, everything is dry (and comfortable?): 1920x1200 pixels, IPS matrix, standard 10-point multi-touch. But the display settings, brightness and contrast are very good - any picture on it looks much more beautiful than on my laptop or tablet. Just magic, an ordinary miracle. I don’t know how well photographs can convey this, so I advise you to look at the tablet in reality.

The viewing angles of the screen are good, there is a light sensor. Another point that I would like to pay attention to is the high-quality oleophobic coating. Fingerprints on the screen can only be found if you look really closely.

How's performance going?

I had no complaints about the technical characteristics of the test subject. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is based on a quad-core Intel Atom Z3745, with 2 MB cache and a frequency of 1.86 GHz. It is supplemented with 2 gigabytes of memory, which is also good for modern device. ABOUT graphics core the manufacturer does not write anything, but with the help of logic and test utilities it was possible to determine that this is Intel HD, exact model, however, not a single benchmark suggested it.

I also could not find any flaws in the performance of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2, although after prolonged use with a good load it gets quite hot. True, this did not lead to any consequences, so I even doubt whether this should be considered a significant disadvantage.

The tablet also performed very well in the tests; I have attached screenshots of each of them. For some reason of its own, the tablet did not make friends with Relative Benchmark, it simply did not want to display the picture. Therefore, it is not among other tests.

Over time, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 does quite well. With my standard use, when the tablet is not left unoccupied with useful work for a single hour, the device was able to last two days. A more economical use case, when some of the functions were transferred to the smartphone, and the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 has already lived for more than three days. In video playback mode with medium volume and medium screen brightness, battery life reached 10 hours. So I can easily believe in the 18 hours declared by the manufacturer - if you don’t watch movies all the time, of course.

Is the interface user-friendly?

The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2's menu is very different from most modern Android devices. Of the closest, related interfaces, I can mention Huawei (at least in the P6 model) and iOS.

There is no main menu here; applications are simply placed on the desktop, starting from the second one. The first can be used for widgets and the most popular programs. The Google menu item with all utilities and access paths is also placed here by default.

There are a lot of pre-installed programs, and most of them are useful and interesting. In particular, these are SHAREit and CLONEit for transferring and playing files on other devices, a utility for setting up Dolby sound, Skype, widgets social networks, a good calendar, evernote, office suite, Navigate, voice recorder, calculator, etc. There is simply no excess or “garbage”, and this cannot but rejoice.

The main module is better. Here the aperture is at f2.2, and the matrix is 8-megapixel. I won’t describe the pictures in words, you can evaluate them yourself. I will only note that they promise to be better in bright sunlight, but I was unlucky with the sun - the weather in Kyiv was gray and cloudy.

Is the sound decent?

Unlike cameras, the manufacturer did not experiment with the location of the speakers. They are located on the front panel, under the screen and are well spaced - one on the left, the other on the right. As a result, there are no complaints about the sound of the tablet.

In addition to the speakers themselves, the tablet uses traditional Lenovo technology Dolby Audio and the lesser known Wolfson Master Hi-Fi Codec. It’s difficult to say what exactly they do and what their merit is. But it is very simple and the main thing to truthfully note is that the sound is rich and of high quality. The volume reserve is also good, there is little distortion even at the maximum level.

Speaking of sound, I can’t help but note one more plus. Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 has an equalizer. And not just for show, it really works and setting the settings significantly affects the sound, improving the processing of certain frequencies.

In my opinion, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is one of the most interesting and worthwhile options for a transformable tablet. The stand does not make it less compact and does not impose any restrictions on the user. Well, besides the convenient format itself, it has a lot of advantages. Unfortunately, there are some shortcomings and misunderstandings, but they probably exist in every device. Fortunately, there are not so many of them.

The only thing that can seriously confuse this tablet is its cost, about 5,500 hryvnia. It is reasonable, quite logical given its capabilities and autonomy, but nevertheless it will not be affordable for everyone.

And while its predecessor only boasted a panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 10, reviewed below, offers 1920 x 1200 pixels, which makes images and text much more attractive.

Our color calibration tests showed the panel to have decent black levels, registering 0.32 cd/m2, although the white level of 376.9 cd/m2 shows the screen is far from the brightest. You can use it outdoors if you set it to the maximum brightness level. Deep black levels also lead to an excellent contrast ratio of 1148:1. However, color accuracy Lenovo tablet leaves much to be desired, offering only 64 percent of the SRGB color gamut. Several versions of the second generation entered the market at once. This, as before, is a version with an 8- and 10.1-inch display. In addition to Android, a Windows version has been added. As before, there are options with and without mobile Internet support, but now in addition to 3G there is also LTE. And, of course, there are two options depending on the amount of built-in memory. What unites them all is a single filling and a familiar body design. The main emphasis here is on improving the hardware, this concerns performance and the screen, but more on everything below.

Speaking about the dimensions, and more precisely, about the thickness, here it varies from an average of 7 mm at the main part to 2 cm at the cylindrical thickening.

The approach to the design and shape of the case is non-standard. Moreover, here it is not just the task of designers to stand out from competitors at any cost; this form also turned out to be practical to use.

This thickening is somewhat reminiscent of the half of a magazine bent into a tube, and it is more convenient to hold this tablet in your hands in a portrait position. This position also provides a good grip.

Like the first Yoga version, the cylinder hides a folding leg. But with the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 10, the engineers went further, the rotation angle was increased by 90 degrees, and at the same time a hole was added in the center. This solution, as conceived by the engineers, will allow you to hang the tablet on the wall. You can mount it in the kitchen - to control recipes, hang it in the garage - to read manuals and instructions, mount it in front of you - getting something like a TV. The level of performance here is sufficient for smooth operation of the interface and everyday tasks. No lags were noticed in complex games such as World of Tanks Blitz, GTA SA, Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8.

Display

The manufacturer took into account modern trends, so they installed good IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. And yes, I really liked him. The touch layer is responsive, but sometimes, very rarely, it did not work.

The color reproduction is excellent, the brightness is not bad. Automatic backlight adjustment is available and works quickly.

Ergonomics

As in the previous version, there is nothing to complain about in the new product. The assembly is wonderful, the body is dense and quite strong.

The on-screen keyboard is large and great for typing. In general, working with the tablet is much easier thanks to the stand.

The sound can be described in one word - cool! On such a device, every song sounds as if it were live. Classics and classical orchestral instruments sound great: piano, violin, trumpet, organ (soundtrack for Interstellar) and so on. The most interesting thing is that you should remember that when working with the stand at the lowest level (inverted position), the volume buttons also change their functions, where previously there was an increase in volume, now there will be a decrease.

Performance

The highest speed of operation is ensured by the quad-core Intel processor Atom Z3745 with a clock frequency of 1.33 GHz, which can also be “overclocked” to 1.86 GHz. Intel HD Graphics acts as a graphic assistant. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and 16 GB are allocated for storing content, expandable using a memory card.

The device shows excellent results in tests. It handles all tasks almost instantly and plays videos and games without lag or stuttering.

Interface and software

The new product works under Android control 4.4.2 with a proprietary shell from the manufacturer. All applications are placed on desktops, which, by the way, can be created up to 18 if necessary. The notification panel appears when you swipe from the top, and the quick settings panel appears when you swipe from the bottom. You can also select applications from the list quick access(although it is limited standard programs and, in principle, not very convenient, as for me).

Let me remind you that a version of the 10-inch Yoga Tablet 2 on Windows 8 is also available in Ukraine.

Cameras

I am glad that the resolution of the photomodule has increased compared to previous version. Indeed, it’s a shame, friends, to install a 5 MP camera with such an innovative design and excellent performance level. Therefore, the manufacturer used an 8 megapixel matrix, and for the front - 1.6 megapixels.

The interface is very simple and clear, and the most basic parameters are available in the settings. You can choose from a variety of shooting modes: Standard, Panorama, Twilight, Macro, and Photo + Sound.

The quality of the pictures is not bad. For example, I recently tested one device with an 8 MP matrix, and the difference is clearly not in favor of the latter. The pictures are good, clear, with rich colors. The brightness and contrast levels are also excellent. But again, the camera location is not the most familiar. We need to adapt.

Communications

The tablet used standard wireless Wi-Fi modules 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with A-GPS support.

Working hours

The battery capacity is amazing - 9600 mAh. Lenovo Yoga 2 promises sky-high prospects. But in reality you will get a day of web surfing, several days of medium-active mode and about 7 hours of gaming.

Impression

Like the first Yoga, this tablet did not leave me indifferent. Externally, it is more elegant and more attractive than the first generation. Each item can be considered separately and you will be satisfied. Yes, this device will easily outshine many tablets and, moreover, is a great option to become your choice.
