    1. Bright and very high-quality screen with Amoled technology, the touchscreen is very sensitive and supports up to 10 touches simultaneously 2. 1.5 GB of RAM 3. Although the design is not for everyone, I definitely like it 4. NFC module (in the MSC metro it is very useful thing, you can check trips on your travel card) 5. Good optimization, the launcher interface is very fast, the battery is consumed evenly

    Great screen! I was amazed by the image quality, clear sound, fits comfortably in the hand, beautiful (mine is blue).

    A very good phone. The price is quite reasonable. Not a bad camera. And if you use a photo editor, the pictures are wonderful. The battery lasts a full day, if you don’t bother with games and videos..

    2 years ago

    Great screen, convenient size, decent build quality. For me personally, the interface is convenient and beautiful. The camera is quite decent, although I don’t take pictures with my phone, I use a DSLR. Loud bell, fairly clear sound.

    Old version android - 4x. With the fifth version, it seems to me that the differences are purely cosmetic, I’m not particularly upset about this fact.
    Lack of 4g. I forgot about this drawback, later I added it to the description)) Well, I don’t watch movies online from my phone, but for other situations 3g is enough.
    Bulky. It is not convenient to hold in your hand during conversations; if you talk for more than 15 minutes, your hand becomes numb.
    Jeans don't fit into the front pocket of some models - I didn't expect such problems when I bought the phone.
    Some vague covers, although maybe I didn’t look well.

    You can’t download many applications at once (max 2), it reflects the sun very strongly (it’s better to wear a matte film), and the bumper.

    2 years ago

    1. The TouchWiz launcher does not allow you to customize the system in the way that “naked” Android would allow
    2. Quiet sound in headphones and there is practically nothing you can do about it, except forcibly increase the level in engineering menu from Root access
    3. The rounded glass prevents the protective film from being completely applied
    4. Glossy lids are very impractical. The problem is solved using original SView cases

    2 years ago

    1) Quickly stopped seeing the charger. Connect charger and phone I just stopped seeing it. I had to buy an additional battery case, because... only through it can you charge the phone. But due to the fact that I constantly pulled the phone out of the battery into a regular case, he stopped seeing it too. Now I have to not remove the phone from the battery case so as not to be left without communication. And this case is not small, Therefore, for now I’m forced to go with a “brick” instead of the thin and light phone I bought it with.
    2) With a slight fall, not only did the screen of the phone break, but the whole thing fell apart (the case, the battery in different directions). Not with one push-button telephone This never happened and they still perform their function. For repairs they asked for half the cost of this phone. Naturally more

    2 years ago

    There are slight interface jerks in the settings menu (not critical)
    - lack of official Android updates 5.0 and 6.0 (don't really care)

    I did not notice

    The back cover is quite slippery - it’s better to wear a bumper or a cover, whichever you prefer. I pasted a matte film on the screen (I can’t live without it). Sometimes my home button gets stuck. I pumped the battery for 3 days (discharged it to 0%, then charged it), but it doesn’t last more than a day (with active use). It gets a little warm, but not critical. Install Clean Master and check the processor temperature. After 3 months of use, I’ll add one more minus - sometimes, leaving the metro, it doesn’t find the network, I have to reboot.

    I haven't found it yet.

    Not very comfortable keyboard.
    Slippery plastic, I immediately put on the bumper and stuck on the protective glass

Positioning

There are not many models on the market that can be called real long-lived. Active life span modern phone on store shelves for at most a year, then new items come to replace it, and you can only find a relatively old device in certain retail outlets - its life is ending. With flagships, the situation is somewhat different - each manufacturer invests significant budgets in them, they gain popularity, and, as a result, their lifespan becomes longer. Sometimes it reaches several years. For example, the 2012 flagship Galaxy S3 is still selling quite successfully today; many consider it a balanced and modern model. Formally, one can compare such a device with second-tier manufacturers, and on paper, the latter bypass the old man in everything - more screens and their resolution, more megapixels for the camera. But as soon as it comes to actually comparing these devices, a completely different picture emerges. The flagship of a large company at the start of sales had best characteristics, that is, one of best cameras, performance, software features. For several years, performance has been deteriorating; this is an objective parameter that directly depends on the hardware used - the market has moved ahead. But, for example, the quality of the pictures has not deteriorated - the market has grown, the new flagships have better pictures. But previous flagships were also marked down. Therefore, it turns out to be a fair deal - the old flagship costs much less, but in its segment it outperforms many new products, since the components and their quality are disproportionate.

Especially in order to extend the life cycle of the Galaxy S3, Samsung released an updated version of this device with support for two SIM cards (this is what we would like to see initially - a flagship comes out, and then a version for two SIM cards, two years later This is a completely different story and not for everyone). They updated the hardware, added RAM, but by and large, left the rest as is. The result is a mid-segment model, which has the design of the Galaxy S3, the hardware is a little more powerful and is positioned for those who do not buy the latest new products, but want to get the maximum quality of images in their price group. It's by no means a huge market, but it's noticeable. First of all, the S3 Neo Duos will compete with the Galaxy S3 - the difference in the price of these devices is 15-20 percent, which is noticeable. But, as already said, it is described not only by support for a second SIM card, but also by updated hardware. Let's take a look at what has changed and how this device feels.

Design, dimensions, control elements

It will not be possible to find at least one difference in appearance from the original S3. The size is the same – 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, weight – 133 grams. The device feels great in your hands, this makes it stand out from phablets; you can operate it with one hand. There are only two color options - blue metallic and white, the same colors were originally available for the S3, others are unlikely to appear for this model, after all, this is a niche solution.

The case is plastic, it is glossy with a varnish coating. After two years, we can say that this material is quite practical; in the first year of use you will not notice any abrasions, then the plastic ages beautifully, the damage is invisible. Such plastic has been tested on many models, and this device is no exception.

The quality of assembly and fit of parts is excellent, there are no childhood diseases and there cannot be, this device has been sold with a total circulation of more than 50 million copies, taking into account all variations. In a word, a verified model.

There is a 3.5 mm jack at the top end, and a microUSB connector at the bottom. The right side of the device is the on/off button. On the left side there is a paired volume key.

On the front surface you can see a physical central key, on the sides there are two touch buttons, no differences from the previous model. Above the screen is front-camera, as well as a light sensor and a proximity sensor.

Display

The screen has a diagonal of 4.8 inches, is made using HD Super AMOLED technology, but its resolution is 1280x720 pixels (16 million colors). The screen is capacitive and supports up to 10 simultaneous clicks. The quality of the screen is excellent for its class, it outperforms most competitors, losing only in resolution, some models have FullHD. But otherwise the screen is good and will completely satisfy the consumer. The screen fades in the sun, but remains readable.

Battery

The phone is used lithium ion battery capacity of 2100 mAh (exactly the same as in the original S3). The operating time of the device is on average about one day of daylight with an hour of calls, up to two hours on the network - a total of about 3-3.5 hours of screen operation with the backlight at 80 percent. The time to fully charge the battery is about 2 hours. Separately, I note that the use of a second SIM card has practically no effect on the operating time compared to the original device - this is due to a different hardware platform and the presence of a larger amount of RAM. And the fact that the device still has one radio module.

USB, Bluetooth, communication capabilities

Bluetooth. Bluetooth version 4.0 (LE). When transferring files to other devices that support this technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 n is used, and the theoretical transfer speed is about 24 Mbit/s. Testing the transfer of a 1 GB file showed a maximum speed of about 12 Mbit/s within three meters between devices.

The model supports various profiles, in particular Headset, Handsfree, Serial Port, Dial Up Networking, File Transfer, Object Push, Basic Printing, SIM Access, A2DP. Working with headsets does not raise any questions, everything is ordinary.

USB connection. In Android 4, for some reason, they abandoned the USB Mass Storage mode, leaving only MTP (there is also a PTP mode).

USB version – 2, data transfer speed – about 25 Mb/s.

When connecting to a PC, simultaneous operation of USB and Bluetooth is unacceptable; the device requires you to turn off Bluetooth regardless of the current state (whether there is a connection and transmission or not), this is extremely inconvenient. When connected via USB, the device is recharged.

The microUSB connector also supports the MHL standard, which means that using a special cable (available at electronics stores), you can connect the phone to the TV (to the HDMI output). In fact, the standard describes the ability to connect via microUSB to HDMI. This solution looks preferable to a separate miniHDMI connector on the case. However, if you still have an adapter from previous models, then it will not fit the Galaxy S3 - the connectors have been swapped here.

For GSM networks, EDGE class 12 is provided.

WiFi. The 802.11 a/b/g/n standard is supported, the operation wizard is similar to that for Bluetooth. You can remember selected networks and automatically connect to them. It is possible to set up a connection to the router in one touch; to do this, you need to press a key on the router, and also activate a similar button in the device menu (WPA SecureEasySetup). Among the additional options, it is worth noting the setup wizard; it appears when the signal is weak or disappearing.

802.11n also supports HT40 mode, which doubles Wi-Fi throughput (requires support from another device).

Wi-Fi Direct. On the menu Wi-Fi settings select the Wi-Fi Direct section, the phone starts searching for devices around. Choose required device, activate the connection on it, and voila. Now in file manager You can view files on another device and also transfer them. Another option is to simply find the devices connected to your router and transfer to them necessary files, this can be done from the gallery or other sections of the phone. The main thing is that the device supports Wi-Fi Direct.

NFC. The device has NFC technology, it can be used with various additional applications.

S Beam. A technology that allows you to transfer a file of several gigabytes in size to another phone in a few minutes. In fact, we see in S Beam a combination of two technologies - NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. The first technology is used to bring up and authorize phones, but the second is used to transfer the files themselves. The creatively redesigned way to use Wi-Fi Direct is much simpler than using a connection on two devices, selecting files and so on. However, for phones not from Samsung use S Beam is impossible, you have to be content with only Wi-Fi Direct, which is understandable and understandable.

Memory, memory cards

The phone has 16 GB of internal memory, initially about 14 GB is available to the user. Memory cards up to 64 GB are also supported.

The amount of RAM is 1.5 GB, after downloading about 900 MB is free (previously the memory capacity was 1 GB). This is enough for all applications, the speed is quite good for this price class.

Performance

Inside there is a quad-core Exynos processor, the frequency of each core is up to 1.4 GHz. The increased amount of RAM has a slight impact on the performance of the device - however, look at the test results for yourself.

Camera

The camera module has not undergone any changes - for its class it is one of the best cameras, even today.

Full review You can find cameras and comparisons with other models in a separate material:

You can also see examples of pictures taken with this camera.

Working with two SIM cards

There is only one radio module in the device, as a result, you cannot call two cards at the same time. But there is proprietary technology here, which is also used by Nokia (Lumia 630). You can enable constant availability of the second card in the menu - this will not create a second radio module at all. But the phone will automatically register an unconditional forwarding from the operator to another card. It will turn out that if you are unavailable on one SIM card, the call will be forwarded to another. Unfortunately, for each forwarded call you will have to pay the operator (one or another), it is not cheap at all, so for many this option seems unnecessary. I won't recommend using it.

The set of capabilities for SIM cards is standard - selecting an icon for a card, selecting a card for data transfer, sending default messages, and so on. In all menus you can select a card for an action, for example, when viewing contacts you can choose which card to call or send an SMS from. Extremely simple and clear. The call lists indicate which card the call was received on, and so on.

Software Features

Android version 4.3, all the features that the company’s latest 4.4 devices have are not here, this is the main difference. It’s not worth waiting for this model to be updated to 4.4, if possible. In any case, this device will not receive all proprietary programs and UI features. This is the right decision from a marketing point of view. In order not to list things that have long been known, I will repeat the description of functions from Galaxy review S3, you can find them at the link - everything is exactly the same here.

21.06.2016

Good day to everyone, dear readers of the Helpix portal. Now we will talk about a smartphone that everyone knows, that everyone hears, and which is very, very controversial. This is a Samsung Galaxy S3 model. I missed it at one time, due to the fact that there was simply no money for it. Then I bought it right away, which I still use to this day. But when the flagship of the previous generation unexpectedly fell into my hands, without thinking twice I decided to write a review on it, after a month of use. And of course, I will definitely draw an analogy with. After all, I have used and continue to use it for a long time, and I have never had one for so long. Therefore, I managed to form a complete and complete opinion about him. And I must say that if I had then chosen for constant use instead of the “troika”, I would probably have used the “four” for just as long as I do now. So, let's go!

Design: there is no need to say much about it, it is familiar to everyone, unloved by many, boring, although, as for me, design is just design. In this regard, I am not picky. The glossiness of the screen is excellent, the finger glides over it as it should. The oleophobic coating is fully present. Fingerprints are rare and can be easily erased with a special cloth. Rear end The smartphone, as expected, is also glossy and slippery - in this regard, nothing has changed in the updated S3 model, which was once the flagship. Only if back then it was a flagship - fast, powerful and beautiful, now it’s just middle class, if not even basic. Because mine, also a flagship, according to its characteristics can already be classified as middle class this moment. What can we say about?..

The lock buttons and volume controls are in their usual places - nothing has changed in this regard. They press and grope without problems, in this Samsung remains true to itself. And what can change if this is, in fact, an updated version of S3. How, did I not say that this is not the same original from 2012, but an updated version in the same body, but with slightly different internals? Didn't say? Then I tell it like it is. This is Samsung I9301I Galaxy S3 Neo. Even the word "Neo" means new, updated. This is what it means.

Okay, that's sorted out. What about the build quality? Having twisted and squeezed this unit in my hands, just not twisting it into a ram’s horn, I came to the conclusion that the build quality is quite acceptable. There are no creaks, the lid sits tightly in its socket. By the way, if you check the lid for flexibility, it is the same as on. Thin and flexible, however, I didn’t bother too much with its plasticity (the device is not mine).

The smartphone fits like a glove in your hands. Although, previously such “shovels” seemed like a novelty, and even smartphones with 4.3 inches were considered large. Nowadays, manufacturers sometimes refer to their smaller 5-inch smartphones as mini versions. So, now the Galaxy S3 doesn’t feel like a shovel in any way, because its screen is only some 4.8 inches. Little one, what can I say!

Now we can say about the display itself. It is made using Super AMOLED technology, which is famous for its acid colors. Although I like acidic ones, most people prefer calmer IPS, but to each their own, so to speak. And if you can change the color profile, just like in subsequent devices of the Galaxy family, then there is no such privilege. Everything is the same as in the original S3.

The resolution is 1280x720, that is, HD. If before it was cool to have a smartphone with such a resolution, now many budget devices have this resolution, as well as amoled matrices. This won't surprise anyone anymore. If we talk about the quality of the screen in this, then we can say the following: for 4.8 inches this resolution is quite enough. Another thing is that they said about him, they say, Pentile, all things, grains, large grains instead of a solid image. And what? If you don't look closely at this display, you won't see any grain.

What do we have inside? What are the features from the original S3? Here's what: first, the dry numbers - 1.4 GHz, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 8228, 4 Cortex-A7 cores, Adreno 305. As you can see, the processor is quite old. But in terms of power it is quite comparable to the original processor in .

In general, the impressions from this change in the internals are positive. Nothing lags, doesn't freeze, doesn't glitch. At least after a month of constant use, no shortcomings were identified. According to the test in AnTuTu, the newly-minted S3 Neo gives out almost 21,000 points, or more precisely, 20,789. Not bad ☺ . By the way, about heating. This is an eternal problem with many modern smartphones, especially during peak loads. After all, the next flagship, that is, heats up quite a bit, even under minimal loads. But what about the previous flagship on a different processor? Having tested it in popular games like Asphalt and GTA, I came to the conclusion that it heats up poorly compared to . Maybe because of the resolution and economical processor? Perhaps, but this did not affect the performance, because it can handle resource-intensive games, albeit at medium settings, but it does. And that's a fact. Plus, on top of everything else, it has not one gigabyte of RAM, like the S3 original, but one and a half gigabytes. And that's great, because the more the merrier.

True, this did not have a positive effect on Tachviz. Because he's just as slow as before. After all, the version of Android here is the “sacred three fours”, so to speak, greetings from the past. And accordingly, Tachviz here is also outdated and long-thinking. No, as I said above, the smartphone does not slow down, does not lag, but it thinks for a very long time, compared to (and I thought that mine was a long thinker).

And even one and a half gigabytes of RAM does not save the situation.

Now about memory. The built-in memory is sixteen gigabytes. Free, as always, a little less, but this is all easily solved with memory cards, which the device correctly recognizes. Eight gigs - I ate, thirty-two gigs - also for a sweet soul. But he refused to eat sixty-four gigabytes. Although it was recognized correctly on my device. But Neo doesn't want to. Look, how capricious you are!

So, I also think there is no point in talking about the system, because everyone knows it well and everyone has studied it thoroughly inside and out. I’ll just say that if you want to plunge into 2012, when flagships were so thoughtful, then here it is, a vivid example of this - S3 Neo. No, I'm not picking on him. He is charmingly glossy, well-built, but his thoughtfulness irritates me in places.

And the design immediately reveals the time of its origin, because if you compare that Tachviz with the current one, everything immediately becomes clear and understandable. After all, even budget phones from Samsung are equipped with modern Tachwiz, which is many times faster, and the Android version is fresher.

As for communications, everything here is as expected, everything is in the best traditions of Samsung. And this is not irony or sarcasm, this is a fact, and a verified fact. The conversational speaker is flawless, and the auditory speaker too. The speech of the interlocutors is clearly audible, they can also hear me perfectly, no one has ever complained in a month. The volume is also manageable, you even have to turn it down slightly, since everything is too loud at maximum. And even at maximum volume the sound is clear. Respect to Samsung for this ☺.

By the way, this smartphone is also dual-SIM. The reception of both SIM cards is quite good, there are no glitches with them. Switching between them occurs in the usual way, as with other similar devices.

Now about connection to the Internet: only via Wi-Fi and 3G. There is no LTE, which is a shame. They could have installed it, because even in Chinese public sector employees you can already find 4G. Or they decided that it would be nice for the S3 Neo to also have high-speed Internet. Okay, no, no. And what we have works smoothly.

Battery. It is not particularly capacious here, only 2100 mAh, but it is quite enough for such a smartphone. If you use a medium device, it will last a couple of days. The discharge occurs evenly. However, when connected via USB to a computer, the battery begins to behave strangely. How exactly? I'll explain now. When connected to a computer, smartphones usually charge, slowly, but they charge. And for some reason the S3 Neo... rejects the charge. Although, the battery indicator shows that charging is in progress, but the percentage, on the contrary, is going away. Whether the screen is on or off, it’s all the same - the charge melts right before our eyes, and that’s it. And when charging with the same charger, which is the original one, by the way, everything is fine. The battery is also original, original. This doesn't happen with my other devices. In general, the point is in the smartphone itself. But what this is connected with is unclear. A glitch, maybe. But it’s not particularly annoying (and the device is not mine, and the owner doesn’t pay attention to it at all).

The bottom line is simple. For the money they ask for it, this device is good. Very good. And this, again, is purely my opinion, not imposed on anyone.

Pros of this smartphone:

  • good screen;
  • high-quality assembly;
  • acceptable autonomy;
  • excellent camera;
  • uninterrupted and clear communication.
  • no LTE;
  • glitches with the battery when charging from a computer;
  • slow interface from Tachwiz;
  • old version of the operating system.

    Although, the disadvantages are nothing more than nitpicking, and the glitches are more likely of a purely specific instance than of the entire batch.

    Thanks for reading my review.

    Sincerely,

  • Vladimir Nesterov
