Changing the password and IP address in modern ASUS routers. Changing the login and password for the router. Updating router software from official sources

ASUS company specializes in creating high-tech equipment for various types of activities. The company is famous for smartphones, TVs, laptops, motherboards, peripheral equipment, etc. Let's consider the most important and in demand product in modern society - the ASUS router.

ASUS is a popular “player” on the market, producing high-quality devices in the wireless equipment segment.

Each router has many features, some of them the latest.

Almost all ASUS brand routers have identical characteristics, so information about them will be generalized.

The product comes in a cardboard box with a beautiful cover. Usually the device is decorated in dark colors. The company, model name and, of course, a photograph of the product itself are indicated.

Inside there is the router itself, the antennas are located separately (you need to screw them on yourself), instructions, a power supply and an Ethernet cable. Manual in several languages, including Russian. The packaging contains a description of the device, warranty card, etc. power unit small size at 19V 1.75A, but in different models is different.

In case the user needs Additional Information, for example, regarding firmware, all this is on the official website in the support section.

Many ASUS routers have an impressive appearance. The characteristics are dual-band and tri-band routers with USB 3.0 and gigabit ports. Two dual-core processors, allowing operation in two ranges, provide high speed operation with wireless devices. Almost any Asus router works according to the 802.11n, 802.11ac and other standards.

Appearance

The company mainly creates models in dark shades from matte plastic. The router itself seems large, measuring 22x9x16 cm, but there are larger and smaller ones. For example, the Asus RT-AC88U model has dimensions of 30x18x6 cm. Such a case must be placed only on a horizontal surface.

On the front panel there are several indicators responsible for any action. They usually light up white, but if there is a problem, they light up red. Old routers of other models did not have this function. For example, if the Internet connection is lost, the indicators responsible for the LAN, WAN or even Wi-Fi connection will light up. When packets are exchanged, these indicators will flash white or other colors.

Also on the front panel you can see the merging inscription ASUS.

On the side of the router there are buttons responsible for connecting wireless clients (WPS) and disabling the device’s wireless modules. On other devices - a button to control the backlight. Located at any of the ends USB port 3.0. There must be a grille for ventilation. Usually it is located both on the sides and on the front side of the router or at the bottom.

For many routers, it is possible to connect printers and smartphones. Can be connected external hard disk.

Depending on the type of router, there are special connectors for antennas. They are located on the sides of the device. Typically, the more antennas, the stronger the signal. On the back of the ASUS router, by default, there are:

  • local ports;
  • USB 2.0;
  • performance indicators;
  • power off and reset button;
  • LAN and WAN ports;
  • power connector.

Another point is that the control panel and ports are not on the side, but on the back. As an addition, there are additional switches, for example, a button to turn off the LEDs or a USB 3.0 port.

In general, there are no complaints about ASUS router models. Everything is done in a modern and original style. As before, the usual square box is no longer in sight.

As for capabilities, routers usually have a dual-core processor with a frequency of 1 or 1.9 GHz built into them. From previous information it is known that such a chip supports not only USB technology, but also PCIe. Must have gigabit network switch. Some models use SATA interface. RAM is 512 MB, flash memory is 256 MB. Support for two bands - 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz - can be done with either one or two processors. Having two processors is a more efficient option.

Connection and preparation for work

Since all ASUS routers have similar ports and connectors, let’s figure out how to connect to an ASUS router. It's worth preparing in advance. And not only organize cables and other accessories, but also find out information about the type of connection used by your provider. For example, PPTP, PPPoE, L2TP use username and password authorization. This data is usually determined by the provider in the service agreement. Now specifically about the actions:

  1. Connect the power supply to the device connector, the indicator should light up. If not, press the router's power button.
  2. Take a network cable - an Ethernet connector - and connect it to the WAN port.
  3. Connect LAN cables to the ports and connect to a computer or other devices for Internet communication. When connecting smartphones and tablets, use Wi-Fi, the access point of which is visible to all devices by default.
  4. At turning on Wi-Fi The ASUS access point will be displayed on the screen of your smartphone or laptop. To connect to it, you do not need to enter the key, since it has not yet been installed (if the router was not configured by specialists).

These are the basic actions performed with every ASUS router. That is, you need to connect all the cables and connect via Wi-Fi. Next, proceed to setting up the router itself.

Settings

For each network or wireless device - router - go to the control panel and configure the network. A browser and a special address are always used to log in.

Open the browser you are using and enter the IP address of the ASUS router in the address bar: 192.168.1.1. For models from other companies it is sometimes different; you can find out the IP in the instructions or on the Internet.

After logging in, a window will appear for entering your login and key. By default, admin is always entered in both fields. Press Enter and enter the ASUS router settings.

On a note. Login information for the ASUS admin panel is located on the back of the device. If there is a Wi-Fi password, it can also be found there in the form of an 8-digit code (PIN Code).

In the main window, click the “Go” button to get to the classic interface with various parameters.

Automatic setup

Initially, the so-called quick setup is used. Here a couple of clicks are made and no special actions are required from the user. The ASUS RT router and other models are being configured.

If the provider uses the “Automatic IP” technology, all of the above will be done in a couple of clicks and you can already use the Internet. But there are other connection types, such as PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP. Let's consider how to deal with them.

Connecting to the Internet manually using the example of some providers

Here the setup is as easy as in the first case. After checking by the "Master" quick setup» all parameters and the presence of a connection in the second step “Internet setup” the items will be highlighted. We choose the one that is used by the provider, for example, PPPoE.

After selecting, you will need to enter a user name and key that will allow you to connect to the provider that issues this data and indicates it in the contract. If you need to change the codes for the Internet, it is recommended to do the following:

  • In the main control panel window, go to the “Internet” section.
  • Go to the "Connection" tab.
  • Change settings.

"Home ru"

Now let’s look at connecting to the network using the Dom.ru provider as an example. The settings below are relevant for most types of ASUS routers, as well as other companies:

  1. First you need to log into ASUS.
  2. Go to the “Internet” section (located on the left), and then click on the “Connection” tab.
  3. Dom.ru, like most other providers in the Russian Federation, uses the PPPoE connection type. Select it in the “WAN connection type” item.
  4. Check “Yes” next to the items “Enable WAN”, “Enable NAT”, “Enable UpnP”.
  5. Select the “Yes” checkbox next to “Obtain a WAN IP address automatically”, as well as “Connect to a DNS server automatically”.
  6. At the step where you set up your account, specify the username and password provided by the Dom.ru provider.
  7. Apply the changes and try to connect to the Internet.

For some providers, especially Rostelecom, it is acceptable to use “Dynamic IP” (abbreviation DHCP). In this case, Automatic IP is selected in the WAN connection type.

Check the “Yes” checkboxes next to the “Enable WAN”, “Enable NAT” and “Enable UPnP” options. And also “Connect to the DNS server automatically” also indicate “YES”.

Rostelecom

  • Go to the control panel of your ASUS router.
  • In the “Internet” section in the “Connection” tab, select “WAN connection type” - PPPoE.
  • In parameters account indicate the username and password provided in the Rostelecom agreement.
  • Check “YES” in the “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Connect to the DNS server automatically” options.
  • Don’t forget to check “Yes” to enable WAN, NAT and UPnP.

"Beeline"

When using the Beeline provider, you must use the L2TP connection type. Select it in the “WAN connection type” section.

Check “Yes” in the “Enable” WAN, NAT and UpnP parameters. Check the “Yes” checkboxes next to “Obtain a WAN IP address automatically” and “Connect to a DNS server automatically.” In your account settings, enter the login and code provided by Beeline.

In the “VPN server” line, enter tp.internet.beeline.ru. Apply the changes and make sure the Internet is working.

NetByNet

  1. Go to the “Internet” section, to the “Connection” tab.
  2. WAN connection type - PPPoE.
  3. WAN, NAT and UPnP – “Yes”.
  4. Connect to the DNS server automatically – “Yes”.
  5. Use the login and code according to the agreement.
  6. Enter 1472 in the MTU field.
  7. Apply changes.

Backup connection via 3G, 4G

The working principle is that there will be two connections:

  • basic from the provider;
  • if the first one fails, the router will use a backup solution based on a 3G/4G USB modem.

In a home environment, this concept may not be useful, but in some companies the situation occurs.

It is worth noting that not all ASUS routers support connecting 3G or 4G modems. Here is a list of models capable of this: RT-N14U, RT-AC66U, RT-AC52U, RT-AC55U and others. Typically, all samples that have a dark firmware version support connecting modems.

The modem support of the router is checked by official resource ASUS - https://www.asus.com/event/networks_3G4G_support/.

If the router is not yet connected, you should configure all the parameters and connect the cables in accordance with the description indicated at the beginning of the article. Continue according to plan:

After rebooting the device, a new wireless network related to the USB modem should appear.

Wireless network in Lately is very popular if you take your smartphone and check availability Wi-Fi networks anywhere in the city, there are almost always several access points.

Overall there are no cons. Many users complain that the router slows down the speed, but this does not always depend on the device.

In this article we will look at detailed information about setting up the Asus RT-N12 router. But so that you do not make a mistake in choosing a router, then Here you can find detailed characteristics, photographs, comments, as well as various reviews.

In the instructions below we will be able to quickly cope with all the work ahead of us. You can find out how to connect it correctly initially, get to its settings, select the correct Internet configuration, rename the Wi-Fi router, and assign your own password. Also, just below there will be a link, if you go through it, you can get to the firmware update site. In general, the work will take little time; in just a few minutes you will have your own Internet distribution center, which will be ready for use.

The characteristics and reviews of this router were presented above, but it is worth highlighting that this router looks very elegant and even very attractive. What is worth saying about the operation is that it works without any glitches and will always give you access to the Internet. Such an Internet distribution center is ideal for home use, as it will give you the opportunity to connect all your devices in the house to the Internet network. However, it happens that the devices do not connect, then you can connect 4 devices via cable at once.

We will configure the Asus RT-N12 according to the following scheme:

  • Turning on the power and selecting “Configurations”
  • Selecting the correct Internet distribution center configuration through the window for automatic configuration.
  • If unsuccessful using the previous point, we will consider the settings manually
  • Managing basic router settings - name and password

Before we start setting up, we need to configure the router, but for this we need information about the connection types of your provider. All this he must tell you which provider your provider uses. It also passes your data through the MAC address. If your ISP lists types as PPPoE, L2TP, or PPTP, then you'll need even more detailed information. For example: user name, IP address, password, etc.

First, provide power to the Internet distribution center. If connected correctly, the light should light up indicating that there is power. If nothing lights up or blinks, then check which word the button on the router is on - on or off. Then you need to connect a cable from your provider or from your modem to the WAN connector. Then you need to connect a cable to connect your computer via the LAN connector. However, there are users who do not have a single device that has a LAN connector, and if you are one of these people, then you can configure it via Wi-Fi, but this is not advisable. After setting it up via a LAN cable, you won’t need it and can unplug it as it is no longer needed.

In the second option, in which you cannot connect via a LAN wire, you will need to connect your device via a Wi-Fi wireless network. To do this, just turn on the router and then connect the wireless network to your device. It will be called Asus and it will not have anyone's password.

If you try desperately and still nothing works, then look article about connecting a laptop to Wi-Fi .

Sometimes it happens that someone before you has already chosen the configuration of your router. Then your router will have some other name and some kind of password. In such cases, it is recommended that after connecting the router, immediately reset all settings. To do this, just hold the button on rear housing router for 10 seconds. The picture of this button was shown in the photo above. After 10 seconds, all the lights will stop lighting, and the router will reboot and everything will turn on again.

Go to the control panel of Asus RT-N12

After successfully connecting your device to the network called Asus or wired Internet network, you will need to open any of your browsers and type this address 192.168.1.1. After loading the address, you should see your configurations, but there are times when this does not happen. All you need to do is view this one. The photo below shows the configuration window. In the first step, you will need to click the " Accept»

Step by step, you are given a choice for a password in order to protect all your data and configurations in the Asus router. This item is mandatory. Enter the password 2 times, remember it, and for greater security, write it down. As suggested, press the button “ Further».

Once accepted, your router will turn off and then turn on again. After which it can be found in the list of all available networks with its new name. Now you need to connect to your named router and the corrupted router.

After connecting, return back to the previous settings site. You should now see a window with detailed information about your router. Now click " Further»

A window should pop up asking you to enter your username and password. You specified all this at the very beginning of the setup.

That's all. This type of setup is suitable for people whose connection type is " Automatic IP" If this is the case, then the router configured everything itself. Now you can use the Internet.

If your provider uses a different type of connection (as described above), then your setup will look slightly different than described above.

Setting up other connection types

Some providers do not use automatic IP connection technology and use PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, or Static IP. Then you need, after updating the connection data, to indicate your connection option. (You can find this out from your provider).

Next, a window will pop up asking for a user and password. This information can be obtained from the agreement concluded on the Internet connection, as well as from the provider. All you have to do is call him and find out this information.

But this is if one of the types that requires only this data is selected. There are types that require an IP address, service name, and the like.

You need to remember that you are the commander of all settings! Depending on your needs, you can choose your own settings WAN. To do this, just go to the initial settings window and select Internet Connection.

On the loading page, you can select the settings configuration you need at any time. If you followed all the points and didn’t miss anything, then everything should work for you. If so, then you can now safely use your wireless connection. Below you will find information on how to change frequently changed configurations in the router.

How to change the network name and set up Wi-Fi yourself

If you, as a friend, want to change the name of your network, as well as the password provided to it, then you can do this directly on the loading settings page through the configuration window. Just enter new variables and click the “Apply” button.

To select and also edit, more large quantity configurations you need to click " Wireless network»

When you have changed the network name and password, reconnect your device. If your attempts are in vain, you will only need to remove the network from the “Known” list and then connect to it again.

Security of all router settings

If hacked or if you want to change the password and user name in the security of the router, go to the “ Administrator", Further " System" After which you can edit all the data you need and Apply their.

After the change, you will use the data you provided to log in to the system.

After reading this article, do you still have problems or want to do something else with your router? Then you can read the following article about updating the firmware. Everything is described there the same detailed instructions .

Hello! We will now configure the Asus RT-N12+ router. You can read a short review, photos, characteristics and reviews about this router (don't forget to leave your feedback, it is very important to us :)). I am sure that these instructions will be suitable for other Asus RT-N12 routers different versions, there are a lot of them, I wrote about this in the article linked above. Why, using these instructions you can configure almost any Asus router. I have on this moment There is only RT-N12+, so we will torture it. When the opportunity arises, I will definitely write about other models.

Now we will quickly set up our Asus RT-N12+, I will tell you how to connect everything, go to settings, configure the Internet, set the name of the Wi-Fi network and change the password. I will provide a link to instructions for updating the firmware. In a few minutes you will already be drinking tea and surfing the Internet via Wi-Fi :)

I will not review this router, as I wrote about it in detail on its page (link at the beginning of this article). Let me just write that the router looks very beautiful and stylish, it works stably, and we intend it mainly for home use. Suitable for connecting tablets, phones, laptops, TVs, etc. via Wi-Fi, and if not possible wireless connection, then you can connect 4 devices via cable. For a small apartment or small house, this is a great option.

We will configure it according to the following scheme:

  • Connecting and entering settings
  • Setting up Asus RT-N12 using the Quick Setup Wizard
  • Setting up an Internet connection with a WAN provider (if it didn’t work through the quick setup wizard)
  • Setting a Wi-Fi password and changing the wireless network name
  • Changing the password to access settings.

To configure the router, we will definitely need information about what type of connection your provider uses and whether it binds by MAC address. And if the connection type is PPPoE, L2TP, or PPTP, then you will need additional data, such as username, password, possibly IP, etc. All this data is provided by the provider. How to find out the connection type, I .

Connection and quick setup of Asus RT-N12+

Connect power to the router. If the power indicator does not light up, check whether the power is turned on with the button on the back of the router. Connect the network cable from your provider or modem to the WAN connector. And connect a cable to one of the 4 LAN ports, which will connect the router to the computer. If you don't have a computer, or laptop, or network cable, then you can configure the router via Wi-Fi. But it’s better to use a cable, then you can disconnect it from the computer.

If you configure via Wi-Fi, just connect your laptop (or another device, you can configure it from a tablet or phone) to the wireless network, which will appear immediately after turning on the router. The network will be called Asus and will not be password protected.

It may be that the default network will be called differently, or will have a password. Perhaps someone has already tried to configure our Asus RT-N12. I always recommend doing a factory reset before setting up. Press and hold the button on the back side for 10 seconds (showed her in the photo above). When you release, all the indicators will go out and the router will start to turn on.

Go to the control panel

After everything is connected, open any browser and type the address 192.168.1.1 . Settings should open immediately. If this does not happen, or something went wrong for you, then take a look. We should see the Quick Setup Wizard. To begin, press the button Go.

On the next page we need in the field Network name (SSID) indicate the name of your Wi-Fi network, and in the field Network key set a password to connect to this network. Write this password down somewhere as well.

The router will think and reboot. A Wi-Fi network will appear with the name we just set. Connect to it with the new password that we just set.

After connecting, go back to the settings. A window with connection information should appear. Click Further.

The router will ask you to provide a username and password to access the settings (which you specified during the setup process).

If everything is exactly as I described above, then you are very lucky. This most likely means that your ISP is using a connection technology Automatic IP, and the router configured everything itself. By the way, the Internet through the router should already be working. This completes the router setup.

But, if your connection type L2TP, PPPoE, or PPTP (providers: Beeline, Dom.ru and others), then the setup will go a little differently. You will just need to manually set some parameters.

Internet setup PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP (Dom.ru, Beeline) on Asus RT-N12

If your provider uses PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, or Static IP technology, then after running the Quick Setup Wizard, after checking the connection, the router should prompt you to select the type of your connection.

You may need to specify some other parameters. IP address, service name, etc. It all depends on the type of connection and your provider.

During the setup process, as soon as the router establishes a connection to the Internet, it will prompt you to set up a Wi-Fi network, etc. Complete these settings as I showed above in this article.

Preparing for setup and connecting the Asus RT-N10 router

Before setting up a Wi-Fi router, you should connect it correctly, and as experience shows, even with this there are problems. And besides this, pay attention to some network settings, which may be critical for successful setup.

First of all, it is recommended to check the settings of the local network connection that is used to configure the Asus RT-N10. In particular, the TCP/IP protocol parameters should be set to “Obtain an IP address automatically.” How to do this is written in detail (will open in a new tab).

The next point to remember: if your provider uses connections like PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP and others, that is, in order to access the Internet, after turning on the computer, you launch some kind of Beeline, Rostelecom, Dom.ru connection from the desktop or from the list of connections in the taskbar, disconnect this connection. And do not connect again either while setting up the router or after the wireless router has already been configured. Those. This connection will be established by Asus RT-N10 itself in the future; you don’t need to run anything, otherwise you will get a result in which the Internet will only be available on the computer, but not via Wi-Fi.

And now about connecting the Asus RT-N10. There are five network connectors on the back of the router. One of them stands out among the rest - connect the cable of your Internet provider to it. And connect one of the remaining ports to the corresponding port network card your computer, then turn on the power to the router. You can start setting up.

After this, you will find yourself on the main settings page of the Asus RT-N10, which looks like this:

On this page, all operations for setting up connections, setting a password for Wi-Fi and other actions are performed, which we will now do.

Setting up Asus RT-N10 for Beeline

In order to configure an Asus router for Beeline, on the main page of the router settings, click “WAN” in the menu on the left, then fill in the parameters for the Beeline L2TP Internet connection, which look like this:

Setting up a Beeline connection on Asus RT-N10 (beeline l2tp)

Basic parameters to set:

  • WAN connection type: L2TP
  • Selecting an IPTV port - if you use Beeline television, select the port to which you will connect the Beeline TV set-top box.
  • Obtain an IP address automatically - Yes
  • Connect to DNS automatically - Yes
  • Username, password - your data for Internet access from the Beeline provider
  • PPTP/L2TP (VPN) server - tp.internet.beeline.ru
  • Apply the settings. On some firmwares Asus settings are not saved if you do not enter anything in the “Hostname” field. Enter beeline.

If no errors were made, and the Beeline connection on the computer is broken, then after a short time the connection to the Internet will be established and all that remains is to configure the wireless connection parameters. You can make sure that the Internet is working by opening a new tab and trying to access a website. About setting up Wi-Fi on Asus, see below, after the information on setting up a router for Rostelecom and Dom.ru.

Setting up Asus RT-N10 Rostelecom and Dom.ru

In order to configure the Asus RT-N10 Wi-Fi router to work with Rostelecom and Dom.ru providers, which use PPPoE to access the Internet, follow these steps:

  • In the menu on the left, select “WAN”
  • Set the necessary connection parameters, the key ones being Connection type (PPPoE), automatic acquisition of an IP address and DNS (you need to set it to “Yes”), your Rostelecom or Dom.ru login and password. The remaining parameters can be left unchanged. If the settings do not save without entering anything in the Hostname field, enter rostelecom or domru. Also, if you need to set up Rostelecom IPTV, specify the port to which you will connect the TV set-top box.

Save the settings and wait a short time. The router will have to establish a connection to the Internet and if you try to access any page, it will open, despite the fact that the Rostelecom or Dom.ru connection on the computer itself is disabled. Now it is advisable to configure the parameters wireless wifi networks.

Setting up a wireless network and how to set a password on Wi-Fi Asus

Another of the main tasks when setting up a Wi-Fi router is setting up the parameters of the wireless network, which is necessary so that, firstly, strangers cannot connect to it, and secondly, to make it more convenient for you to use it. Setting up Wi-Fi does not depend on what provider you have - Beeline, Rostelecom or any other.

In order to configure the basic parameters of the wireless network and set a password for Wi-Fi, in the settings menu on the left, click “Wireless Network” and on the “General” tab enter the basic parameters:

  • SSID (Wireless Network Name) - Enter something of your own here, so you will distinguish your network from others. It is better to use the Latin alphabet, otherwise some devices may have problems connecting via Wi-Fi.
  • Authentication method - WPA2-Personal
  • The WPA Preshared Key is your Wi-Fi password, which must be at least 8 characters long.
  • You don't have to change the other parameters, especially if you don't know what they mean.

Apply the settings. Wait for a message indicating that the Wi-Fi settings have been successfully changed. And, in fact, that’s all - you can try connecting via Wi-Fi from a laptop, phone or tablet, everything should work.

Setting up the Asus RT-N10 router with new firmware

Frankly speaking, I don’t know if Wi-Fi routers with this type of firmware are on sale (in my opinion, yes, for example Asus RT-N10P and RT-N10U), but it can be downloaded and installed on some models of the RT-N10 router . The firmware index is 3.0.0.x and the web interface of the router with this firmware version looks like this:

As you can see, despite the fact that the design style has changed, the location of the settings menu items remains unchanged when compared with firmware 2.0.0.x and 7.0.0.x. That's why, basic setup Wi-Fi of an Asus router with new firmware occurs in exactly the same way as was described above for Beeline, Rostelecom and Dom.ru.
