Comparison of Samsung s7 and edge. Comparison of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 - what are the differences and which is better? Technical characteristics and differences in hardware

Every year, Samsung tries to please users with its flagships. The release of a new smartphone from this company is event number one. At the beginning of this year, a new gadget was introduced - Samsung Galaxy S7. Reviews vied with each other to praise the new version of the phone. According to the developers, the gadget exceeded all expectations, and most importantly, it was head and shoulders above its previous “colleague” S6. Is this so, let's figure it out further.

First impression

It is worth saying that the first impression of the smartphone is positive. Of course, this is due to both the company’s marketing and the appearance of the Galaxy S7. Reviews about the design are the most flattering. Buyers like not only the version with curved edges of the display, but also the classic model. The smartphone turned out to be presentable. He seems to be perfect in everything. It harmoniously combines external minimalism and crazy functionality.

The main competitor of this model is the gadget from Apple. The race between the American and Korean companies can last forever. Developers are vying with each other to improve their models and fight for the favor of buyers. In this case, it is Samsung that often wins. Since it is still more affordable than an iPhone. Nevertheless, there will be competition, so I would like to know how it influenced the new model this time.

Equipment

Regarding the configuration, I received different ones. Some expected to get a complete set of everything they could, while others were happy with what they got. Basically, the package includes a charger, a USB cable and an adapter. There is also a clip for the tray, and the best part is the presence of a branded headset.

The box in which the smartphone is sold is presentable. It is black and matte. It is made in the shape of a book and closes with a magnet. The model is indicated in large letters on the front, and some characteristics of the smartphone are presented on the back.

So different

It is probably not surprising that it receives positive reviews. It differs from the classic version only in appearance. Its display has curved edges, just like its predecessor S6 Edge. Otherwise, this model does not differ from the version with a flat screen. Specifications both phones are identical.

Insanely beautiful

The design of the Galaxy S7 received good reviews from owners. It has similarities with the previous model. The first thing that catches your eye is the modified edges of the body. They were made rounded and beveled. Owners no longer complain about inconvenience. Using the phone has become much more comfortable. Despite its rather large dimensions, it is comfortable to hold in one hand.

The screen size of the regular model was 5.1 inches, and the Edge became 5.5 inches. The flagship was given 2.5D glass, which visually made the gadget smaller. The main disadvantage of the new model is that the case is easily soiled.

Color solution

A new color scheme has been developed. But each of the shades is made in a calm color. It is matte and lacks the metallic effect. Gold, silver, black and white colors are available for users. The charcoal option looks best, although it will show up the most when it comes to dust and fingerprints.

Details

The thickness of the case is 8 millimeters. Considering the overall dimensions, the smartphone looks quite thin. It weighs a little - 152 grams. One of the most noticeable changes is the transformation of the camera: it now does not protrude above the surface of the cover, which means the risk of damage to it has been reduced. The Home key is softer. It is as if integrated into the body. Matte plastic was used for its manufacture.

On the front panel at the top there is a front camera, speaker, notification and lighting sensors. The company logo also occupies its usual place. The back of the phone also looks very minimalistic: at the top in the middle is a square camera window, next to the LED flash. The logo is duplicated on the case cover.

The remaining elements of the body remained in their usual places. On the left side there is a volume rocker. On top there is a noise-canceling microphone, as well as a SIM card tray. On the right is the on/off button, and at the bottom, in addition to the connectors for charger and headphones, there is a main microphone and an external speaker grille.

Integrity

As always, the body of the new flagship is monolithic. It is impossible to disassemble it and replace the battery yourself. But you should understand that if something happens to the battery, it can be replaced at a service center.

Usually solidity also implies protection from water. If it was removed in the previous model, then new smartphone You can bathe again and not be afraid of anything. The protection standard here is, as always, IP68. Despite the fact that the charging connector is not covered with anything, the board has a special coating with a solution that repels liquid. The speakers and microphones are covered with a special membrane.

By the way, to prevent corrosion, all metal elements of the phone were subjected to special treatment. The Galaxy S7 Edge received different reviews from owners regarding this feature. Someone immediately rushed to blame the developers for the fact that after “bathing” the smartphone, the speakers began to work worse. This problem does occur, but it goes away immediately after the phone is completely dry.

Usage

Before we delve into the analysis of technical characteristics, it is worth mentioning the impressions of using the smartphone. Due to the fact that the battery has become more capacious, the size of the smartphone has increased. This is especially noticeable with the Galaxy S7 Edge version. Reviews on this matter are only positive. Despite the fact that the flagship has become visually larger, it is still comfortable to hold in your hand.

I was also pleased with the SIM card tray. The fact is that it has a rubberized insert that protects the gadget from dust. In general, all materials have become much stronger, which makes the device seem more reliable. Although there were owners who accidentally dropped the phone in the first few days, and then complained about the fragile glass.

Screen

If we talk about regular version, then the display has 5.1 inches, and the matrix for it is SuperAMOLED with incredibly rich and bright colors. Screen resolution QHD. Not only reviews, but also the opinion of competent specialists proves that the displays of the Korean company are the best. This fact is also confirmed by the fact that to this day many manufacturers are ready to buy outdated screen models for their gadgets from Koreans.

The Edge 32gb display is much more interesting. Reviews are more often found about this model. The redesigned version of the curved display, compared to the previous model, has become much more convenient. They really worked on it. Many users of the S6 Edge model complained about the screen not working correctly. Accidental clicks on the sides of the display were often observed. They disappeared due to the fact that they corrected the shape of the body and rounded it a little. The sensor is working correctly.

Despite all the positive aspects of the display, there were still some unpleasant moments. Safety glass has received mixed reviews. Those who bought the film outright rarely complained. But those who hoped for technology were disappointed. The screen actually collects not only fingerprints, but also minor scratches. Moreover, you don’t need to make any special efforts to make them appear.

Display innovations

You probably shouldn't touch the colors and contrast of the screen. It is clear that SuperAMOLED always produces a slightly artificial picture, however, with very rich, rich and bright colors. The latest in the Samsung Galaxy S7 32gb has positive reviews.

For the new model, technology with a polarizing filter was invented. It was placed at an angle of 45 degrees. Now the screen is comfortable to use with sunglasses or using polarized glass.

The next innovation concerns automatic brightness adjustment. The fact is that here it can work personally for each user. It is known that the perception of brightness may be different for each owner. Korean developers have introduced a system that could independently select lightness and color based on observations.

For the option to work, you need to use not only manual settings for several days, but also automatic mode. The smartphone will remember all your wishes and will select the ideal screen parameters in the future. In practice, the option functions very efficiently and accurately.

Always in touch

There is also a new Always On option. When locked, the screen remains partially active. It can constantly show the time, calendar, notifications or just a picture. At first, the Galaxy S7 received negative reviews about this. Those who did not use this option believed that it could “gobble up” many percent of the charge.

Later it became known that instead of the stated 1-2% in 12 hours, a phone with Always On spends up to 10%. This indicator is quite subjective. For some reason, there is a waste of charge with this option on different phones can be different. However, the feature is really useful. You always have the clock, calendar, missed calls and messages in front of your eyes.

Memorable Changes

Last year, Koreans decided to abandon the memory card. They believed that 32, 64 and 128 GB would be enough for everyone. By and large, this is true. But in practice problems arose. The larger the volume internal memory, the more difficult it was to find a model with this version. There were no problems with the availability of Samsung Galaxy S7 32gb. Negative reviews began to appear.

In 2016, Samsung realized the mistake and returned support for the memory card. Now there are flagships with 32 and 64 GB of internal memory on sale. Whoever misses this will be able to purchase a memory card. The only thing is that in this case you will have to sacrifice one SIM card slot. This is due to the fact that the flagship has a hybrid slot that supports either two operators or one SIM card and one memory card.

RAM has increased to 4 GB. This will be quite enough to simultaneously support a bunch of tasks. The transfer speed here is 3 gigabytes per second. This option is a record holder among others.

It is worth mentioning the memory manager for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 32gb, reviews of which were negative in the previous model. This function often unloaded applications from memory at the wrong time, which sometimes caused indignation. So, the manager himself remained in the new flagship, but a mode was added to it, which still allows you to save in memory running applications, and unloads them only when necessary.

Such changes are very pleasant, considering that running software can be stored for a long time until the user needs additional memory. As soon as it is needed, applications are sent to the buffer. I was also pleased with the speed of launching programs from the cache. Previously, software that was in memory launched so quickly, now even from the buffer, the smartphone unloads applications with lightning speed.

Powerful

Finally we got to the most interesting part. It is already clear that externally the flagship was able to conquer users. But for many, design is not fundamental. Most users need performance. There are good reviews about it for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and there are practically no shortcomings.

MALI T880 MP12 is responsible for graphics. The gadget is powered by Exynos 8890 Octa. There are versions that will receive the famous Qualcomm 820. In general, the opposition between these processors has existed on the market for a long time. Last year, the Koreans abandoned Qualcomm. Reviews about him were often negative. Users complained about the case getting very hot.

The rejection of this chipset greatly brought down Qualcomm shares. Still, many users prefer these processors. Objectively, Exynos is inferior to Snapdragon, but in practice to the average user it's not noticeable.

As a result, the Qualcomm version has its drawbacks. The main one is the rapid loss of battery charge. Compared to Exynos, this chipset loses 10% more operating time. The integration of Snapdragon with the camera also affects the speed of some functions. There are other disadvantages as well. Considering that the Koreans nevertheless prepared their flagship for the Exynos 8890 Octa processor, it is with it that the version is considered the most optimized.

Indicators

Regarding performance, you can find only positive reviews for the Galaxy S7. There are practically no shortcomings, but can only be noticed by the most picky users. Otherwise, the flagship shows only the highest results in synthetic benchmarks.

Of course, after more than 6 months, it may already be inferior to some Chinese gadgets. However, at the beginning of sales, record figures were presented: there were more than 101 thousand “parrots” in Antutu.

It must be said that this moment This is one of the most powerful processors, even after the release of the seventh iPhone. It remains very important that while it is fast, it shows excellent energy efficiency, optimization and power consumption.

operating system

The flagship came out with Android 6.0.1 OS. It has very good reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S7, and there are practically no shortcomings. Dissatisfaction sometimes occurs only regarding TouchWiz. However, the shell was redesigned and optimized for the operating system. The phone system now feels organic.

The menu remains as laconic as in the previous model. For some reason, the music player was removed, so you will have to download it yourself. Some other software that was previously system software is also not here. Otherwise, everything remains virtually unchanged from the Galaxy S6.

Activity

As mentioned earlier, the size of the smartphone is due to the fact that the battery has become a little stronger - 3000 mAh. It is impossible to calculate how long the Samsung Galaxy S7 will last. It all depends on the user, software optimization, power consumption, and the quality of the charging unit.

On average, the phone safely survives until the evening. More economical people can last even two days. With continuous video playback, the phone works for about 12-13 hours. For charging there is not only microUSB, but also wireless power.

Photo/video

ABOUT Galaxy camera S7 received the expected reviews. Some owners complained about the quality of pictures from the front camera. But this opinion is rather subjective, because what can you expect from a 5 megapixel resolution. But the main camera takes pictures very well. It received 12 megapixels, which is quite strange, considering that the S6 version had 16 megapixels.

But such changes did not affect the quality of the images. On the contrary, everything has become much better. This is due to the fact that the pixel size has been increased to 1.4 microns. Thus, the matrix now receives more information. The module here is Sony IMX260. The aperture ratio was increased to 1.7.

In general, the camera software itself was equipped big amount"buns". In addition to the fact that adjustments for selfie shots are available in the new flagship, there are also a bunch of different modes. Photos at night are of high quality. There are new scenes and stories, as well as various camera settings.

Replacement

It is worth saying that the phone costs about 50-70 thousand rubles. For those who don't have that kind of money, there is another Galaxy version S7. The copy did not receive the best reviews. But what can you expect from a Chinese fake? The main feature of the “fake” flagship was almost identical to the original appearance. In addition, the price is also pleasing - only 6-7 thousand rubles.

The remaining indicators are still different. The copy has a less powerful processor - MediaTek MT6735 ARM Cortex-A53. There are 4 cores here. The same Chinese chip is responsible for the graphics, but an order of magnitude cheaper and weaker - Mali-T720. operating system here is more “ancient” - Android 5.0.2. None LTE networks. The quality of materials is also inferior to the original.

They speak negatively about the technical characteristics. If the original Galaxy S7 does not slow down at all and can perform a whole range of tasks, then its copy noticeably overheats and begins to lag under the slightest load.

Overall, this is a pretty good Chinese fake. But you need to keep in mind that no one will give you a guarantee on it. And there are a lot of phones similar to this model on the Chinese market. But unlike this copy, they are much higher quality and more powerful.

conclusions

Overall, the smartphone really turned out to be very cool. Outwardly, he is almost perfect. Of course, the version with curved display edges is more popular. Although there are also those who prefer the classic screen. The main drawback is the protective glass of the Galaxy S7. Reviews about it are not always good. This is most likely due to the assembly of the phone. Since there are buyers who have dropped their phone more than once, but the display remains intact. And there are those that could accidentally crush the display in a bag.

In general, if you want to buy this flagship for yourself, then it’s better to come to the store once again and touch it. In practice, it turns out that someone instantly falls in love with a model, while someone’s interest in her fades away.

From your own experience you can understand how high-quality the OS inside the gadget is. It’s also worth touching the screen itself and deciding on the S7/S7 Edge version. The phone turned out to be very subjective. Some people may find the display colors too bright, and even adjusting the settings won't help. Someone will be unhappy front camera. Some people still won’t be able to afford the cost of a flagship.

Analyzing the dry numbers, the smartphone really turned out to be good. Externally it is minimalistic, but inside it contains a whole range of options and parameters that later turn out to be vital. Korean company has released very reliable smartphones that are now some of the best on the market.

Last year the only significant difference between Galaxy S6 And S6Edge from Samsung there was a curved screen on the model Edge. This year things are a little more varied. Let's compare, noting the many similarities and a few differences between these cutting-edge smartphones.

1. Size

Samsung decided that Galaxy S7 edge it will be larger, wider, but thinner. Of course, these 6.4 and 3 percent differences are insignificant. Perhaps the first one is for display.

2. Body structure, colors and weight

The glass-metal body of both smartphones is the same. As are the colors. The user is offered a choice of black, gold and silver solutions. The only difference is 5 grams of weight difference towards the curved model. Weighs 157 grams versus 152 for my colleague.

3. Display

The main difference is the curved screen and its size.

5.5 inches is definitely larger than 5.1. At the same time, this is the maximum allowable size for a phablet when operated with one hand. The screen resolution of both devices is the same: 2560 by 1440 pixels. The pixel density per inch is only higher - 577 units versus 534. Display type - Super Amoled from the manufacturer. Both screens also offer an always-on screen feature to display the date, time, and other information on part of the screen. Single pixels are illuminated, and not a specific area on the screen, as on the LCD display of a competitor from LG.

4. Fingerprint sensor

Both have them below the screen.

5. Processor

It is assumed that in the regions of the USA, Japan and China the advanced quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor will be installed, and in the rest - the company’s own processor, the eight-core Exynos 8990 processor, will be slightly inferior in performance. So the division on a regional basis for the consumer is obvious.

6. RAM, space and memory cards

Both smartphones received 4 GB random access memory. And this is no longer the upper limit for mobile devices (soon a smartphone with 6 GB of RAM will hit the market). The user can choose from models with 32, 64 or 128 GB of internal space. Good news for users - both smartphones support additional memory cards.

7. Batteries

U Edge Due to the large growth, it became possible to accommodate a more capacious battery: 3600 mAh versus 3000 mAh for its colleague. Both batteries are non-removable and feature fast and wireless charging.

8. Camera

Both smartphones have dual pixel technology that allows you to capture more light for photography and shoot in low light conditions. Plus, this technology promotes fast autofocus. Automatic image stabilization is also present on both devices.

9. Waterproof

It's nice that both phones were able to be submerged 1 meter in water for up to 30 minutes without any consequences. IP68 certification also provides additional dust protection.

10. Virtual reality support

Both smartphones are ready to work with a virtual reality headset GearVr. In some cases, the headset is offered free of charge in the kit if you pre-order a smartphone. But not in all regions.

11. Software

Both smartphones are offered at launch with Android Marshmallow with Samsung’s proprietary shell – TouchWiz.

12. Release, price and withdrawal

Both phones will hit the market in March 2016. Only the starting price will be $670, and Galaxy S7 Edge– $790. That's the price of a dual-curved screen, a slightly larger display, and a battery. And also the right to uniqueness, which competitors did not get around last year. The warranty on devices promises to be from 2 to 3 years, depending on the region. But more often it depends on suppliers who, having received a 3-year warranty, offer the user 2 years of warranty and the opportunity to buy an additional 1 year warranty service for additional funds. Be carefull.

You've probably already read a bunch of Samsung Galaxy S8 reviews and know literally everything about the smartphone. However How is Samsung Galaxy S8 different from Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge?? Is it worth spending 50 thousand rubles on a new flagship or will you stick with the old one and save a lot of money. Now I’ll tell you everything.

Why am I comparing the new product with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge?

Firstly, the Galaxy S7, although a top-end gadget, looks sluggish compared to its curved brother. A matter of taste, of course, but the Edge has a feature - a curved screen. And it takes the device to another technical level.

Secondly, it is the S7 Edge and the regular S8 that are more or less close in size. The Plus version is quite healthy and it’s logical to compare it with some Note. But there is currently no current device from this line.

However, what are differences between Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S7 Edge? About this in today's review.

Ease of use

I’ll say right away that there is no clear leader here. Every smartphone has pros and cons. Let everyone decide for themselves what is more important to them, but for now I will list all the nuances of using both devices.

Do you want it narrower or wider?

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge- a wide smartphone and this is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, “edge” is not suitable for everyone; you need a fairly wide palm to comfortably hold the device in your hand.

Against his background Samsung Galaxy S8- a fitness model. It is narrow and fits perfectly in any hand. Perhaps even fans of the compact iPhone 7 with its 4.7 inches will appreciate the excellent ergonomics.

However, the wide Edge has one important advantage. On a standard keyboard, I type text with almost no errors. The edge display is wider, the virtual buttons are larger, so they are easier to hit.

Typing characters on the S8 is pure hell for me!

Not only does the S8 have a narrower display, but also the rounded edges cut off part of the usable area. As a result, typing is a real pain. By the way, with the Google keyboard the number of errors decreased, but the typing quality still left much to be desired. You need to get used to it. For a long time.

Eight is much more suitable for watching movies. All Hollywood films are displayed with virtually no black bars at the top or bottom. And if you click on the zoom button, the player stretches the image to rounded corners as well. Absolute delight!

Against this background, the S7 Edge looks like an old Ruby next to the plasma (S8).

Accidental taps on the S7 Edge screen are killing me. And if you are lying in bed with your phone, then it is simply impossible to use it normally.

The S8 has no such problems. No accidental clicks in any position. But why?

Firstly, the screen is not so curved here.

Secondly, there are some software algorithms that can cut off accidental clicks.

Well, the last difference. SG S7 Edge looks very cheerful even in 2017. Beautiful, curved and expensive design. And the SG S8 looks even cooler! Against this background, in general, all smartphones existing on the market are some kind of gramophones, hopelessly behind by 3-4 years.

Frame

The S7 Edge has sharp side edges that dig slightly into the palm. The S8's sides are neatly rounded, so it feels more pleasant. We write it down as a plus.

In the new product, the rear camera practically does not protrude. This is good because the lens rim will not peel off. Although this is a controversial issue, time must be given.

The Eight is perceived as thinner than its last year competitor. And this despite the fact that it is actually thinner than the S7 Edge - by 0.7 mm!

Everyone criticizes the location of the fingerprint scanner in the new product. And they do it right.

At first I thought I would get used to it, but after three days of use, I realized that I wouldn’t. Every time you have to turn your smartphone over to see where the sensor is, and only then put your finger on it.

This is perhaps the biggest inconvenience after typing on a narrow screen. You will need to get used to both this and that. You buy a phone for 55 thousand rubles and kindly get used to it. Like this?

Moreover, I would not call the scanner fast and accurate. The finger must be applied vertically; in a horizontal position, it is not always possible to unlock the device. There is nothing outstanding here in terms of unlocking speed either. Both generations of Samsung are far from being the record holder.

The S8 has an oleophobic coating on all sides. It is of very high quality, no questions asked. But the “edge” was lucky with this only in the front. It's weak at the back, and prints readily collect here.

“Olephobe” is not only pleasant, it is also dangerous. Dropping the S8 is a piece of cake. Moreover! If you place the device on an uneven and smooth surface, it will move off it towards the floor. You need to be very careful with this!

Seven has no such problems. Its body is more grippy.

Display

There is a difference not only in resolution (2960 x 1440 pixels versus 2560 x 1440 or Quad HD+ versus Quad HD). The colors on the S8 are a little softer, but at the same time slightly richer. All this is noticeable only when compared head-to-head. Individually, both panels are excellent. Super AMOLED, if that.

If we compare the reproduction of individual colors, the S8 is already noticeably ahead of its predecessor. If the white of the S7 Edge gives off a slight metallic tone, then the younger rival has nothing like that.

The S8 has only one caveat - at some angles it looks very pink. It is not always noticeable, but the problem still remains and software patches do not help yet. I don't think they will help.

At extreme angles there is virtually no inversion. In both devices a slight greenish tint appears (“thanks” to AMOLED), in the 7 it is slightly more pronounced. However, this is not at all the crime that was before.

There is no PenTile in any device. Samsung got rid of it in its displays back in the days of the S6, so those wary of ghosts from the past can relax.

The Edge sidebar remains unchanged in terms of functionality. We saw the same thing in the seven. This is strange, because manufacturers often want to justify the purchase of a more recent device with new software features. But not in this case.

Technical characteristics and differences in hardware

We compare the characteristics of both models in the table. It's more clear this way.

The new processor provides a little more performance, but so far there is nowhere to use it. The situation is actually quite funny. Every year hardware manufacturers raise the performance bar, but we don’t see normal, cool games.

There is World of Tanks Blitz, a port represented by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a couple of 3D shooters, but there is no quality breakthrough. As many as 20 computing cores in graphics accelerator There is simply nowhere to use Mali-T71.

The thing is cool and works quite well, but it requires good lighting and a number of extra movements. That is, if the phone is lying on the table away from you, you need to get up every time and put your face in the field of view of the sensor, while also first pressing some button to illuminate the screen. But why do we need so many extra movements when the same “edge” has a fingerprint sensor on the front - extend your finger and you’re done.

In general, a fingerprint scanner on the front side is convenient, aesthetically pleasing, harmonious and does not make your figure look fat. There is no need to invent anything.

Smartphone accessories

Performance

It seems like we have two crazy flagships on our hands, but I wouldn’t say that the interface animation always works reactively.

We set the maximum resolution for each and get barely noticeable, but still present lags. How can this happen in a phone that costs 55,000 rubles? How?!

S7 Edge on the latest Android 7 is generally sad. Every time after unlocking, it was as if I got him out of bed at the wrong time and forgot to wake him up. Well, sorry! The animation slows down, the lists scroll through with frieze. In general, this is not the case.

Want perfect smoothness? I recommend setting the resolution for the S7 Edge to FHD, and reducing the resolution to FHD+ (2220 x 1080) for the S8. Believe me, maximum values are not needed at all in ordinary life (only for VR). The picture looks perfect anyway. In addition, power consumption is reduced by at least one fifth, and believe me, this is critical for both of our devices.

In order to check the gaming performance, I launched everyone’s favorite “Tanks”. There are practically no drawdowns on the new galaxy. Usually this is 58-60 FPS, but occasionally the frequency dropped to 54, not lower. The S7 Edge can no longer boast of such power. In active scenes, the frequency drops to 31-34 FPS, but usually spins around 50 frames per second.

The situation in the benchmarks is as follows (on the left is the predecessor, on the right is the young and arrogant upstart “es-eight”):

By the way, depending on the resolution, the benchmark indicators are different. I don’t know why, but with HD+ resolution, the results are the lowest.

And now the “parrots” that my “seven” can boast of. The gap in synthetics is obvious.

Main camera

The new generation of flagships receives new sensors. How could it be otherwise?

Thus, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped on the back with either a Sony IMX333 or an S5K2L2 matrix from System LSI. The predecessor could boast either a Sony IMX260 or S5K2L1 module. The last option was installed in my Edge. Now let's get down to business!

Daytime shooting

I looked at the photographs as best I could. As a result, I found virtually no differences.

The exception is the temperature of the flowers. The S7 Edge often makes the picture warmer, while the S8 makes it cooler. Below are examples. On the left are frames taken on the S7 Edge, on the right from the S8 camera - from now on.

I won’t write this down as a plus for the S8, because you can always adjust the white balance manually at seven. Go ahead.

Macro

Here I expected to see deeper and better photo processing from the S8: less noise, better detail, and so on. Did not work out.

It feels like I was comparing two photos from the same camera - no differences.

Bad light

This is where the fun begins. At least that's what I thought. I took several shots, compared them with each other, cropped them and... did not find any differences.

Do you see anything? Me not.

Night

When there is enough light, many smartphones shoot well and more or less identically. But night photography is a real test for anyone mobile device. And here the developers had to show all their skills in order to reduce noise, not turn the photo into watercolor, and so on.

And yes, it happened! Finally I found the differences. The S8 takes photos with a little more detail and less noise.

True, the difference is so small that it can only be noticed by comparing cameras directly, with the same scenes and shooting conditions.

By the way, safety glasses There is glare on both smartphones. And these glares ultimately remain in the photographs.

Frankly speaking, this is the first time I’ve noticed something like this on mobile devices.

By the way, we can download the archive with all the originals from this link.

Front-camera

The front camera in the S8 has really been updated: autofocus has appeared and the resolution has increased: from 5 to 8 megapixels. This entire system is represented by a Sony IMX320 or ISOCELL S5K3H1 matrix, depending on the modification. At the same time, the S7 Edge is equipped with a 5-megapixel S5K4E6 module.

Of course, all this had a positive impact on the result. Now the photos have become more detailed, and the background has received a small, but still blur. Previously, everything was in focus and there was not much creativity in such photography.

There is also a minus - the viewing angle of the G8 has noticeably decreased.

Video shooting

In terms of video shooting, nothing has changed at all. Both smartphones still shoot in 4K resolution at 30fps and a high bitrate of 48Mbps. Example below.

Nothing interesting happened with the Slow Motion mode either. So far there are only two devices on the market that pay increased attention to this moment: (1080p at 120 FPS), and, which very seriously slows down everything around - right up to 960 FPS.

David kindly agreed to lend me a Samsung S8 Youtube channel Arstayl. Thanks to him for this!

As a result, the following conclusion emerged.

If there are no problems with money, and you don’t need to take out a loan to buy a new product like the S8, then that’s what you should take. There are a whole bunch of improved little things, but there are also two significant advantages: a design that is unique for the market and very beautiful, as well as improved ergonomics in comparison with the same “edge”. All this is definitely worth overpaying 15 thousand rubles.

If 50 thousand rubles (give or take) is a bit expensive, but you still want a top-end gadget, then don’t worry about it. We take the Galaxy S7 Edge and enjoy life, fortunately there is nothing truly revolutionary in the new product (except for the design). There is moisture protection, Samsung Pay works to its full potential, the cameras are identical in quality.

If you're not yet in the Samsung camp, then both the S7 Edge and S8 are two great occasions join. And no, no one paid me for advertising. It’s just that the first smartphone is a chic option in 2017 to get an uncompromising device for relatively little money. And the second one is just a top top.

Personally, I am only concerned about two competitors, about whom little is known yet. The first is HTC U11 and what’s wrong with it. The smartphone should arrive to me in the next month, so there will be a review. The second device is OnePlus 5, which has not yet been announced. What if the legendary Chinese manage to make a monster for 400-500 bucks? Then Samsung will have a worthy competitor for less money.

The True Evolution of Smartphones:

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are something of an evolution from the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Samsung companies It took a lot of work to make the S7 and S7 Edge distinct smartphones from their predecessors.

Unique Features:

Galaxy S7 is thinner - just 7.9 mm thick and lighter - 152 grams including the metal layer on the front and back parts with Gorilla glass.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S7 Edge is even thinner than its sibling - just 7.7 mm thick and weighing 157 grams, with a sporty 3D curved display. Both the back and front are made of durable Gorilla Glass 4. Now both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are IP68 certified, which means they are dustproof and waterproof.

Samsung Galaxy S7: The smartphone is equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor or an eight-core 8890 processor from Samsung Exynos (in other versions), as well as an Adreno 530 or Mali-T880 MP12 graphics processor (depending on the version), which makes the smartphone even more powerful. The smartphone has 4 GB of RAM for multitasking.

Galaxy S7 Edge: Galaxy S7 Edge has the same processor - Snapdragon 820 or 8890 eight-core Exynos processor in a different design. Just like the S7, it is powered by an Adreno 530 or Mali-T880 MP12 GPU and carries 4 GB of RAM on board. Both smartphones: S7 and S7 Edge have the same powerful processor and graphics.

The installed processor may vary by region and operator. For example, for the United Kingdom, the Galaxy 7 and S7 Edge are released with an 8890 processor from Samsung Exynos and a Mali-T880 MP12GPU graphics unit. In the USA, on the contrary, they are released with Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530 processors. But in any case, both Galaxy smartphone The S7 and S7 Edge left their predecessors behind: the S6 and S6 Edge are far behind in speed.

For many companies, the production of smartphones has become a very profitable business - sales are growing even among beginners. But no matter what anyone says, it is the flagships of the Koreans and Americans that “rule the show” on the market today, so let’s look at the advantages of smartphones from these manufacturers - the iPhone 7 and Galaxy s7.

Exterior

The main feature of the S7 is its original design, especially that of the “phablet Korean”. At the moment, an interesting idea - a display that smoothly passes to the ends - is unique in its kind. The effect of an infinite screen is created.
However, the luxurious exterior sometimes plays a cruel joke here. By simply holding a smartphone in his hand, the user can provoke false clicks with any movement. This slows down the speed of interaction somewhat, because... I have to constantly close unnecessary tabs. Fortunately, the “smaller” version of the S7 does not have this drawback.
iPhones can also boast of an excellent body, balanced in every sense, the only thing is that some users are already a little tired of the image that has been in use for the third year in a row. Agree, external changes minimal.
The iPhone has an all-metal body, while the Galaxy has an impact-resistant glass reinforced with aluminum inserts on the sides. The color variations are similar:
In general, both flagships look very decent, which goes without saying for top-end devices.

Chip and memory

Purely in terms of technical parameters, Samsung is superior to its opponent in some respects. It has a bright, detailed screen, a larger battery and an upgraded 8-core processor.

However, this still does not allow the S7 to occupy a leading position in terms of performance.

The trick of iPhones has always been to optimize the system for hardware and vice versa - they function as a single well-coordinated mechanism, and 4 chip cores are quite enough for excellent work.

Apple simply believes that any additional add-ons lead to unjustified waste of energy; the company does not chase nominal indicators, but is aimed at the end result - uninterrupted and fast operation.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Android devices - the imperfect system mercilessly “eats” potentially solid hardware resources, and all the obvious technological advantages of the Koreans are simply neutralized because of this.

Both flagship lines are equipped with RAM: the “junior” iPhone has 2 GB, the 7 Plus has 3 GB, and the Galaxy has 4 GB. They are controlled by iOS 10 and Android Nougat 7, respectively.

It is clear that it is not entirely correct to compare such different systems, since they work differently, but we will still present performance ratings. iPhones are in the lead.
The lag in the speed of processing user commands in the S 7 is visible even to the eye - especially when opening several “gluttonous” applications. And all this despite a much more powerful technical arsenal than the iPhone 7.
As for memory, in the “s7” line the Koreans decided to resume the practice of using external memory cards - their maximum capacity is supported up to 256 GB. By the way, instead of a memory card in the Galaxy, you can insert a second SIM card - convenient!

In this sense, Apple is true to its traditions - users can be content with only built-in memory (from 32 to 256 GB), with the possibility of its “virtual expansion” by using cloud storage. The justification for this is to ensure maximum stability of operation - this cannot be achieved with third-party cards, manufactured by no one knows who.

Cameras

Manufacturers have also done a good job on the cameras - they are good in both devices. However, they are focused on different tasks. The iPhone camera is more likely designed for the average user with little experience. There are no special advanced settings provided here - turn it on and take consistently good photos.

Samsung has a more solid arsenal of tools for complex photography, but for inexperienced users they are of no use - only unnecessary confusion and the results are the same pictures.
Therefore, iPhones are ideal for taking photographs on the go - the image is always clear (stabilization works great), color rendition is adequate. For staged shooting, it is better to use a Samsung - but here you need to understand the settings, since problems with white balance are often observed.

The parameters in numbers are as follows: the main camera is 12 megapixels for both, but the front camera is better for the iPhone - 7 megapixels versus 5 megapixels for the galaxy. The Plus version of iPhones is also equipped with a dual module consisting of a wide-angle and a TV camera.

Other Features

Both smartphones are dust- and water-resistant: the “American” has IP67, and the “Korean” is one point higher - IP68, which means that it is better protected from water. For the sake of sealing, the new iPhone model does not have the usual audio jack (now its role is played by the Lightning port). But in the S 7, the engineers completely managed without such radical solutions.

The Galaxy is equipped with a module for wireless charging, which would now be so desirable for iPhones - to relieve the load on one port. But, alas, he is not there yet. In general, Samsung, like all Asian smartphones, has a lot of additional “goodies” that increase user convenience. And these little things often sway the choice of buyers in their favor.

For example, the S 7 constantly displays the date, time, messages and other information on the inactive screen. What’s especially nice is that this practically does not affect the battery life.
But at the same time, it’s a little frustrating that the Korean’s scanner is covered with plastic; such a step is incomprehensible - after all, this “button” is used dozens of times a day, which is why it quickly becomes covered with scratches and reads fingerprints more slowly. On the iPhone 7, not only has the button become touch-sensitive (for greater sealing), but it is also reinforced with a sapphire overlay. As a result, the iPhone unlocks faster than the opponent and is not afraid of scratches.

conclusions

According to various estimates, both devices may well be considered market leaders – and rightfully so! Both have a comparable set of parameters, which means that when choosing, you will need to focus more on the personal preferences of the future owner.

So the Korean literally needs to customize everything to suit himself - an advanced user may like this. But most people don’t want to understand this; that’s what iPhones are designed for, since everything happens here by default

iPhones are popular because of the ease of settings – no extra effort is required from users. Their voice assistant, Siri, allows you to solve almost any task hands-free. A new version shell - iOS 10, has significantly expanded the capabilities of devices, standard applications have significantly increased functionality. Thanks to 3D Touch technology, the smartphone “feels” the owner, reacting to the pressure applied and the duration of the touch.
