How to install driver on Windows 10

A significant difficulty when using HP office equipment is the initial setup process. The instructions given by the manufacturer are most often formal and difficult to understand, so users often make mistakes that lead to loss of equipment performance. We have prepared a detailed step-by-step algorithm that will help you avoid mistakes when installing new devices.

The first thing you need to do is download the drivers for the HP LaserJet 1010 printer, which are available for download via the hyperlinks published at the top of this page. You can also try searching for this distribution on the official website in the “ Technical support" The most important thing about this step is that you will need to unpack the driver files, which will be archived after downloading. We recommend using free utility 7ZIP for this. You can also unpack the folder using the standard Windows utility.

Now we move on to determining the information on the bit depth of the operating system of our device. We look for the “My Computer” icon on the desktop and select its “Properties”.

If for some reason there is no such icon (for example, it was deleted), then open the search bar (it is located next to the “Start” menu) and enter “My Computer” there. Now we call its properties. A window will open containing all the data about the operating system being used. We are interested in the line “System type”. We remember this data.

Now we go to the “Control Panel” option, from where we will install and configure the printer. Enter “Control Panel” into the search bar. Next, among the set of icons for setting up your computer, select “Hardware and Sound”, where we are interested in the link “View devices and printers” - click on it.

The system will show us a list of all previously installed printers, but we are interested in the “Add Printer” icon at the top. Let's click on it.

The installation wizard will immediately begin to automatically search for printers that have been connected to the computer but not installed. We don’t wait for this operation to complete and immediately click the link “The printer you need is not in the list.”

In the window that opens, select the option “Add a local or network printer with parameters specified manually.” Place a check mark next to it and click “Next”.

Now we check the port settings for connecting the printing device. There should be a checkmark next to “Use an existing port”, and the port itself should be selected as “LTP1: (Printer Port)”. After this, you can click “Next”.

The selected LTP1 port may not suit you, and therefore, if the printer does not work, select DOT4_001 from the list.

The system will redirect to a list of available driver files for printers - here you do not need to select any, just click the “Have from disk” button.

The installation wizard will prompt you to insert the driver disc, click “Browse”.

Now select the file called “hpc1015c” inside the files that we unzipped at the very beginning of the instructions. After that, click “Open”.

Now you must select the printer to install on your computer - HP LaserJet 1010 HB.

After that, click "OK".

There are very few steps left - one of them is to enter a name for our printer (it can be anything). After that, click “Next”.

It often happens that when connecting a printer, USB modem, or other necessary devices the user does not get the desired result. In addition to equipment malfunctions, the computer may not “see” the connected device at all. The main reason for this PC behavior is the incorrect operation of special system programs, called drivers.

The printer does not work

Let's look at the solution to this problem using the example of connecting to personal computer printer HP laserjet 1010. Users have repeatedly noticed that a previously working printer refuses to perform its functions after reinstalling the operating system and virus attack or as a result of system failures. There are several ways to solve this problem related to the system itself and provided that this equipment completely fine.

Step 1.

Initially, it is worth checking whether the equipment itself is found on the PC. We connect the printer to the appropriate USB port computer and connect it to the power supply. After that, in the menu " Start"You must enter the phrase " device Manager" and click on the desired link, then select in the window that opens " Image Processing Devices". Next, the name of your printer will appear in the tab, by clicking on it with the right mouse button you need to follow the link “ Properties" and select the tab " Driver".

The system will display all installed drivers for this device on your PC, which can be updated if necessary. As a rule, updating drivers is only required in cases where the printer is not working correctly.

If, after all the above manipulations, the line in the device manager “Image processing devices” is missing or other devices are displayed in it, then this means that drivers for this printer are not installed on this PC.

Step 2.

What to do when the PC does not recognize the device?

As a rule, when you connect the printer to a computer, the operating system itself searches for and installs the necessary drivers. If this action does not lead to positive results, then it is worth establishing necessary programs manually using the special CD that comes with the printer. If necessary, you can independently find drivers for the HP laserjet 1010 printer on the Internet.

However, it is worth remembering that today There are no official drivers for the HP laserjet 1010 printer compatible with Windows 7 and higher. If you have the above operating systems, you should try using the HP Printer Installation Wizard utility for Windows.

Step 3.

Download drivers for hp laserjet 1010 printer

You can download the necessary drivers for Windows OS versions Vista and lower on the official HP website by clicking on this link. Remember! The result of loading system programs or drivers for equipment from third-party resources can be not only malfunctions of the PC, but also completely irreparable consequences, so it is advisable to check each file with an anti-virus program.

The system will automatically install necessary components. It is necessary to take into account the fact that after downloading and installing the drivers, you must restart the computer for all programs to work correctly.

There is a series of such wonderful printers: HP LJ (LaserJet) 1010, which are already more than 10 years old, but at the same time they continue to work more than efficiently. And everything would be fine, but this model itself is old, and in any modern Windows versions(as of Windows 7) this printer is no longer supported.
What to do? Many come up with patches, run drivers in compatibility mode, and so on, but the recipe is actually simple: just use a driver from a similar HP model, which is still supported by the version of Windows you need.

HP LJ 1010 for Windows 7 x32/x64 bit

In order for our printer to work in Windows 7 (and even in the 64-bit version!), it is enough to select the driver (built into Windows) during installation: HP LJ 2200 PCL5. Please note: after installing the driver, it would be a good idea to go into the settings and disable those options that are not on the HP LaserJet 1010: for example, the duplex module.

HP LJ 1010 for Windows 10 x86/x64 bit

And everything would be fine with the HP LJ 2200 driver (which is installed in Windows 7 for the HP LJ 1010 printer), if not for one “but”: Windows 10 no longer has a driver for the HP LJ 2200! What to do? There are several options:

  1. We take a computer with Windows 7 of the same bitness as the Windows 10 we need (i.e., for example, if we have Windows 10 x64, we need Windows 7 x64), connect the printer to this computer, install the driver for HP 2200 PCL5 on it , we check that everything is working fine, share the printer over the network and connect this network printer to our computer with Windows 10.
When you connect such a printer, the driver for the HP LJ 2200 PCL5 will be installed in Windows 10, after which you can connect our long-suffering HP LJ 1010 directly to a computer with Windows 10 and point it to the HP LJ 2200 PCL5 driver we already have.
  2. The second method is much simpler: as a driver for the HP LaserJet 1010 printer in the operating room Windows system 10 specify the driver for HP LJ 3055 PCL5. This is a built-in driver in Windows 10 and is available in both Windows 10 32-bit and Windows 10 64-bit.
  3. Untested method: Use the HP Universal Print Driver.
  4. And finally the most the best option for the most (advanced) users: connect the HP LJ 1010 to a server running Linux and print via CUPS. In this case, in Windows you can select any (or almost any) PostScript-compatible printer driver.

HP LJ 1010 printer stopped printing, PCL error is displayed

If your HP 1010 printer was printing normally, but at some point it stopped and started giving a PCL error - just turn it off, wait a couple of seconds and turn it on again. Such manipulations must be done with him regularly; this can even be called his “normal” behavior.

Without installed driver the printer will not perform its functions. Therefore, first of all, after connecting, the user will be required to install the software, and then proceed to work with the device. Let's look at all the available options on how you can find and download files to the HP Laserjet 1010 printer.

When purchasing equipment, the box must contain a disk containing the necessary programs. However, now not all computers have drives or the disk is simply lost. In this case, loading drivers is carried out using one of the other available options.

Method 1: HP Support Site

On official resource users can find the same thing installed on the disk, sometimes even updated versions of the software are released on the website. Search and download is carried out as follows:

  1. First go to home page website through the address bar in your browser or by clicking on the link provided above.
  2. Expand menu "Support".
  3. Find the item in it "Programs and Drivers" and click on the line.
  4. In the tab that opens, you need to indicate the type of your equipment, therefore, click on the picture of the printer.
  5. Enter the name of your product in the appropriate search bar and open its page.
  6. This site automatically detects installed version OS, however this does not always happen correctly, so we strongly recommend checking it and specifying it yourself if necessary. You should pay attention not only to the version, for example, Windows 10 or Windows XP, but also to the bit depth - 32 or 64 bits.
  7. The last step is to select the latest driver version and then click on "Download".

Once the download is complete, simply run the downloaded file and follow the instructions described in the installer. The PC does not require a reboot after all processes are completed; you can immediately start printing.

Method 2: Program from the manufacturer

HP has its own software that will be useful to all owners of devices from this manufacturer. It scans via the Internet, finds and installs updates. This utility also supports working with printers, so you can download drivers using it like this:

  1. Go to the program page and click on the appropriate button to start downloading.
  2. Open the installer and click on "Next".
  3. Check out license agreement, agree to it, proceed to the next step and wait for HP Support Assistant to install on your computer.
  4. After opening the software in the main window, you will immediately see a list of devices. Button "Check for updates and messages" starts the scanning process.
  5. The verification takes place in several stages. Monitor their progress in a separate window.
  6. Now select the product, in this case the printer, and click on "Updates".
  7. Check the box necessary files and start the installation process.

Method 3: Special software

Third-party software, whose main task is identifying equipment, searching and installing drivers, is more suitable for working with components. However, it functions correctly and with peripheral devices. Therefore, installing files for HP Laserjet 1010 will not be difficult. Get acquainted with representatives of this kind of programs in detail in our other material.

We can recommend using DriverPack Solution - simple and free software that does not require prior installation. Just download the online version, scan, set some parameters and start the process automatic installation drivers. For detailed instructions on this topic, read the article at the link below.

Method 4: Printer ID

Each printer, like other peripheral or built-in equipment, is assigned its own unique identifier, which is used when working with operating system. Special sites allow you to search for drivers by ID, and then download them to your computer. The HP Laserjet 1010 unique code is as follows:

USB\VID_03f0&PID_0c17

Method 5: Windows Built-in Utility

Windows OS has standard remedy for adding equipment. During this process, several manipulations are performed in Windows, printer parameters are set, and the utility independently scans and installs compatible drivers. Advantage this method is that the user is not required to perform any unnecessary actions.

Finding the appropriate files for the HP Laserjet 1010 printer is not difficult. This is done using one of five simple options, each of which involves following certain instructions. Even an inexperienced user who does not have additional knowledge or skills can handle them.
