The larger iPad Pro will go on sale with a price tag of $999 and, like the smaller version, it will come in four different sizes: 64GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB – expect 1TB models will be very expensive. You can buy a tablet in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + LTE models.

| iPadPRO 2018: NEWS

Apple says this is the biggest update since the first iPad, and the new tablets come in two sizes: an 11-inch version and a 12.9-inch version.

The small iPad has the same size body as the latest iPad Pro, but instead of a 10.5-inch screen, it now has an 11-inch one.

There is also a new version a large tablet with a 12.9-inch panel, which is characterized by a smaller body, which makes the tablet less bulky compared to last year's model.

New iPads are one of the most thin tablets on the market, the 12.9-inch beast measures only 5.9 mm.

Both feature Liquid Retina displays that use True Tine technology and a host of other features. Apple claims this is one of the most accurate and responsive displays the company has ever put on a tablet.

There is no Home button on the front of the tablet; instead, tablets rely on Face ID technology for authentication. This should work similar to the iPhone X and iPhone XS.

Tablets are presented with the latest software iOS 12.1, but it's a little different from how it works on existing tablets. The OS brings a lot iPhone functions X to help you use it without the Home button.

The tablet runs on A12X Bionic chipsets, which are built on Apple's own 7-nanometer process technology. The company promises not only a major improvement in energy consumption, but also an increase in performance. Single-core performance is 35% faster than the last iPad, but we won't know by how much. powerful tablet until we try it ourselves.

Apple's own 7nm GPU sits inside and is said to make graphics performance a thousand times faster than the tablets that came before it...we're glad some games will run better.

We currently don't know how big the battery is in any version of the tablet, while the manufacturer has stated that the tablets will provide "a day of battery life."

You'll also be able to get up to 1TB of storage with the new iPad Pro, but we don't currently know what storage sizes the company plans to offer for the smaller model.

The big, important change to the new iPad Pro is the USB-C port at the base of the tablet. The purpose of installing the port is to be able to display the tablet’s image on monitors using USB-C.

You can even charge your iPhone from your tablet using a special Charger. Quad speakers return on the new iPad Pro, while the main cameras are 12-megapixel sensors capable of recording 4K video at 60 frames per second. The front camera is a 7-megapixel sensor.

There is also a new version Apple Pencil. It now magnetically attaches to the top of the tablet and will charge via wireless network when you connect it. This means that he will no longer have to stick out from the tablet.

You can also press the stylus to switch between modes, such as eraser or searching for a thicker line. In addition, Apple is releasing a new version of the keyboard case.

It is expected that this month the company will hold another presentation at which the iPad Pro 2018 models will be presented. Mentions of new tablets have already been found in the beta version of iOS 12.1, and then sources from the famous portal 9to5mac shared interesting details about the devices.

It was noted that two versions of the iPad Pro 2018 are being prepared, each of which will be released in four modifications. Most likely, we are talking about tablets in two sizes, with two options for built-in memory and with support for Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + LTE. Regardless of the modification, they will all be different interesting features, about which a little below.

Edge-to-Edge Screen

The new 2018 iPad Pro models will feature displays with very narrow bezels. In addition, these are the first tablets that will lose the Touch ID button. That is, the ruler will go along iPhone ways, abandoning fingerprint scanning in favor of Face ID.

The TrueDepth camera system required for facial recognition will be placed above the display, on the top frame. There will be no cutouts.

Face recognition in any orientation

An interesting feature of the new tablets will be the ability to recognize faces in both portrait and landscape orientations. To unlock, you won’t need to turn the tablet over every time; the main thing is not to hold it upside down.

What’s noteworthy is that the Face ID setup process will be quite standard, just like on the iPhone. There will be no need to turn the tablet over, allowing the camera to store more data.

External display support

New iPads should get a USB Type-C port, which will allow you to display images from the tablet to external displays in 4K HDR format. To control this function, a new panel will be available in the settings, allowing you to control resolution, brightness, dynamic range and other picture parameters.

A new Apple Pencil is also reported. It will automatically connect to your iPad, similar to how you connect to an iPhone. To pair, you no longer need to connect the accessory to the tablet via the charging port.

Magnetic connector

iPad Pro 2018 will have a new magnetic connector for connecting accessories on the rear panel. It is with its help that the tablet will be connected to the new version of the smart keyboard, which should be presented along with tablets, as well as some other devices.

The new iPad Pro tablet was officially unveiled at Apple's presentation on October 30. The tablet turned out to be an exact copy of the model from the iOS 12.1 code, received support for facial recognition technology, which turned out to be even more advanced than in the flagship iPhone, a USB-C connector and a smart second-generation Apple Pencil with gesture support.

The main feature of the iPad Pro that catches your eye when you first look at the tablet is, of course, its display. The stunning IPS panel with a diagonal of 11 and 12.9 inches and bezels that tend to disappear evokes true admiration for the abilities of Apple engineers. But the main thing is that they managed to make the display absolutely symmetrical, despite the TrueDepth system, which is responsible for facial recognition.

The heart of the tablet is the eight-core A12X Bionic processor. It is 90% faster than the previous generation, which allows it to be considered one of the most productive “stones” for personal computers.

Maxim Kostenkov, 04.05.2019

At the end of October 2018 at a presentation in New York Apple company introduced 3 new creations at once: MacBook Air, MacBook Mini and iPad Pro. Undoubtedly, all 3 devices deserve close attention, but in this review we will talk exclusively about the new iPad. In 2017, more iPads were sold than all laptops combined. Thus, iPad Pro is both the most popular tablet and portable PC. Agree, there is no reason to consider the brand new iPad first.

Options and design of iPad Pro 2018

The standard delivery kit includes the following components:

  • tablet Apple iPad Pro 2018 selected configuration;
  • USB Type-C charging cord 1 meter long;
  • 18 W power adapter.

Let's say right away that for an additional fee you can order useful accessories, including the innovative 2nd generation Apple Pencil stylus and the Smart Keyboard Folio. We'll talk about them in more detail a little later.

The new iPad Pro comes to market with two display options:
  • 11 inches- this option has dimensions of 247.6x178.5x5.9 mm and weight 468 g;
  • 12.9 inches- the dimensions of this configuration are 280.6x214.9x5.9 mm, and the weight depends on the network modules (versions with only Wi-Fi weigh 631 g, and versions with support for Wi-Fi + Cellular - 633 g).

We can say that Apple engineers have competently thought through the design of the new line of tablets. Thus, the 11-inch version of 2018 has almost the same dimensions as the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. However, the new product received a larger display. This was achieved by minimizing the frames as much as possible. They turned out really thin. True, because of this we had to remove the “Home” button and minimize the dimensions front camera, but it’s unlikely that any users will complain about it.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2018 also turned out to be frameless, but this is not its only highlight. The tablet is 25% smaller than the same version of the previous generation. This had a positive effect on ergonomics and, accordingly, ease of use.

Despite the fact that Apple has made the tablets as small as they could, the new products are not left without important design elements:
  1. Top end equipped with two speakers (right and left), three microphones (located in the center above the front camera), a multifunction button responsible for turning the device on/off, as well as switching it to sleep mode and waking it up (located near the right side).
  2. Bottom end It is also equipped with a pair of speakers and, best of all, a USB Type-C socket. This port is capable of performing a number of functions. In addition to charging, it can be used to connect other devices (cameras, smartphones, monitors). That is, you can display the image on large screens and enjoy playing games or watching movies. Also, the tablet can be used to charge other portable devices.
  3. Left side almost completely clean. There is only 1 microphone there.
  4. Right side equipped with volume rockers (at the top), as well as a magnetic zone (located in the center). You can attach the aforementioned Apple Pencil to it. At the bottom there is a place for a slot for nano-SIM cards.

As for the back panel of the iPad Pro, the user will find on it:
  • signature bitten apple (where would we be without it);
  • main camera and flash module (top left);
  • Smart Connector required to connect to the keyboard (bottom center).
To finish the design topic, let's talk about color options. There are only 2 of them: silver and “space gray”.

Stylus and keyboard of the new iPad Pro

At the presentation of the iPad Pro 2018, accessories were also presented: the Apple Pencil stylus and the Smart Keyboard Folio. We also decided not to bypass them. Moreover, there is something to talk about here.

So, the stylus has a one-piece design without moving areas or connectors. The matte finish allows the accessory to fit securely in your hand, making it very comfortable to work with. One side of the stylus is flat. You need to use it to apply the “pencil” to the magnetic area of the tablet to charge. When docking is successful, a slight click is heard. This way you will know for sure that the Apple Pencil has secured itself and has started charging. The absence of wires and additional transmitters makes the operation and storage of the accessory as convenient as possible.

  • By the way, if you remember, Lenovo came up with a separate compartment for the stylus.
Moreover, in the flat area (where the user's fingers will be) there are special sensors that will allow you to change tools with a double tap. For example, you can quickly switch between a pencil and an eraser. The overall functionality of the new Apple Pencil is truly enormous. With it you can:
  • draw sketches or full-fledged paintings;
  • develop interior design;
  • create architectural projects;
  • edit photos;
  • write notes.
In a word, Apple engineers did everything so that the user would not want to let go of this accessory.

As for the Smart Keyboard Folio, it allows you to turn the iPad Pro 2018 into a full-fledged laptop. It is made in a book format and is magnetized to the back panel of the device through the aforementioned Smart Connector.

The keyboard is full-size and contains all the necessary buttons (except for the keypad). With its help you can quickly type texts and play some games. Moreover, the keyboard has a Command button. By clicking on it, the user will see a list of available commands and keyboard shortcuts for executing them. Thus, with a couple of clicks you can save files, change fonts, cut out a certain piece of text or copy it.

Since the keyboard is book-shaped, when closed it covers both sides of the iPad. Thus, it plays the role of not only a governing body, but also protective cover, which will protect the gadget from scratches and other damage. The user can set the keyboard in 2 positions. In one position it is more convenient to type, in the other - to watch movies.

In addition, using this control it is much more convenient to put the tablet into sleep mode and wake the gadget from it. It is enough to close the “book” and the device will “fall asleep”. Once you open the keyboard, you can start working right away.

As you can see, both accessories can become useful assistants in working with the iPad Pro 2018. The only negative is that they are not included in the standard package, so you will have to pay extra for this pleasure.

iPad Pro 2018: Display Specifications

As we mentioned above, Apple released its new tablet with two display options - 11 and 12.9 inches. In both cases, the screen is a rectangle with curved edges that perfectly follow the curves of the body. When creating the display, engineers used the edge-to-edge principle, thanks to which the sensor occupies almost the entire front panel.

In addition to the diagonal, iPad Pro screens differ in resolution:

  • 2388x1668 pixels for the 11-inch version of the iPad Pro 2018;
  • 2732x2048 pixels for the 12.9-inch configuration.
The remaining key characteristics are completely identical. You can see them in the table below:
Display typeLiquid Retina
MatrixIPS
Backlight typeLED
Pixels per inch concentration264
Reflection coefficient1,8 %
Brightness600 cd/m2
Color gamutWide, P3 standard
Anti-glare coatingYes
Multi-touch supportYes
Fingerprint protectionYes
AdditionallyLaminated screen cover

As you can see, the main characteristics of the display are quite impressive. Besides, iPad screen Pro 2018 has a number of features:

  1. The Liquid Retina display uses sub-pixel anti-aliasing technology, which allows you to adjust individual pixels so that the edges of the picture perfectly follow the curves of the body.
  2. True Tone technology automatically adjusts white balance. This indicator automatically adjusts to the lighting, resulting in colors that always look natural. In addition, thanks to this technology, eye strain is significantly reduced.
  3. ProMotion technology automatically adjusts the refresh rate. This indicator changes depending on what you are doing (web surfing, reading text file, edit an image, or spend time playing a game). Thanks to this technology, the response speed of the sensor always remains as high as possible.
To sum up, we can say that the display of the iPad Pro 2018 fully corresponds to the high status of the device. It produces clear, rich images that will delight you no matter what you're doing.

Technical stuffing of iPad Pro 2018, its testing

The developers equipped the new iPad Pro 2018 with an advanced 64-bit 8-core A12X Bionic chip with an M12 motion coprocessor. At the heart of the tablet is the Neural Engine technology, which performs 5 trillion. operations per second. Thanks to its unique architecture, the new chip is 90% faster than previous generation tablet CPUs. In addition, according to official statements, the A12X Bionic is faster than the processors of 92% of laptops.

The graphics are handled by a chip that is 2 times more productive than previous generations of processors. Engineers also managed to speed up its operation by as much as 1000 times. This allowed the tablet to match the power of the latest Xbox. This hardware is enough to run games with full computer graphics.

Concerning physical memory, then here the user has 4 options to choose from: 64, 256, 512 GB and even 1 TB. The possibility of expansion, as usual, is not provided, so it is better not to skimp on this component.

Official statements from manufacturers are, of course, good. But what will synthetic tests show us? First, let's take a look at the results of performance testing in the SunSpider benchmark. Let us remind you that in this test the lowest result is the best. Here's what we got:

iPad Pro 2018 test result in the SunSpider benchmark

As you can see, the new iPad Pro is 20% more powerful than last year's Pro version. It easily outperformed advanced Android gadgets (the same Samsung Galaxy Tab S4). The tablet in question could not compete with flagship smartphones(Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note 9). The only device that managed to come as close as possible to the performance of the iPad Pro 2018 was the iPhone XS Max.

Testing iPad performance Pro 2018 in AnTuTu benchmark

In this benchmark, Apple's new product outperformed last year's tablet by as much as 98%. Nobody (not even the iPhone XS Max) could provide serious competition.

Test iPad Pro 2018 in the 3DMark benchmark

The new iPad Pro showed results that are 100% higher than last year's Pro version. The iPhone XS Max was also outperformed by a whopping 60%. Regarding Samsung's Android flagship Galaxy Tab S4, then its indicator is almost three times less than that of the hero of our review.

The practical test did not disappoint either. On startup latest version basketball simulator NBA 2K, the device consistently produced 120 fps. Add to this the ability to display images on a large monitor and the iPad Pro immediately becomes almost a full-fledged substitute for a desktop PC, laptop and game console.

In general, in terms of hardware, the engineers really did a great job. There is literally nothing to complain about. However, such high performance is provided not only by the processor, but also by an optimized operating system.

Software shell of the new iPad Pro

The device in question runs on iOS 12. The platform has been optimized for both iPhones and iPads. With its help, it was possible not only to ensure high performance of new gadgets, but also to improve the performance of previous generations.

In general, the new version of the operating system allowed:

Apple always tries not to disappoint its users with the quality of its cameras. What happened to them this time? Here are the key characteristics of the rear and front module:

In more detail, the main camera of the new iPad Pro 2018 supports the following set of functions when photographing:

  1. Panoramic shooting with a resolution of up to 63 MP.
  2. Automatically focus the picture using Focus Pixels technology. Also, this technology Allows you to focus the image by touching.
  3. Live Photos mode with image stabilization.
  4. Exposure control.
  5. Reduce noise in photographs.
  6. Auto image stabilization.
  7. Serial shooting.
  8. Shooting using a timer.
  9. Geotagging a photo.
In addition, the main camera supports a wide color range and an improved local tone mapping algorithm. The photos turn out to be of fairly high quality, but you don’t need to expect sky-high results (this is, after all, a tablet, not a camera phone).

Also, the main module supports several basic video shooting modes:

  • 4K at 30/60 fps;
  • 1080p at 30/60 fps;
  • 720p at 30 fps;
  • 2 types of slow motion - 1080p at 120 fps or 720p at 240 fps;
  • Time-lapse shooting with video stabilization.
It is possible to improve the quality of the video using the mentioned True Tone Quad-LED flash. Cinematic video stabilization is supported when shooting in 1080/720p quality. While recording videos, you can enable autofocus tracking and noise reduction. Also, when recording video in 4K, you can take photos with a resolution of 8 MP. Geotagging in videos is available. When viewing captured clips, you can zoom in on the image.

As for the TrueDepth front camera, it gives the user the following set of functions:

  1. Take photos in portrait mode with portrait lighting.
  2. Auto image stabilization.
  3. Serial shooting.
  4. Exposure control mode.
  5. Shooting using a timer.
  6. Record videos in 1080p quality at 30/60 fps.
We should also highlight the fact that the front module supports the FaceID function. Thus, you can unlock your device with one glance, pay for a purchase, or log into some application.

Network functionality and sensors iPad Pro 2018

In terms of equipping your brainchild network modules, Apple engineers also decided to show diversity. 2 variants of gadgets entered the market:

  1. Wi-Fi enabled. This version supports connections via Wi-Fi with frequencies of 2.4 and 5 GHz. There is also a Bluetooth 5.0 module. Available from navigation digital compass and iBeacon location system.
  2. Wi-Fi + Cellular enabled. In addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, there is support mobile networks 2G, 3G and 4G. That is, to access the Internet you do not need to be near the router, just insert a SIM card and connect the optimal tariff plan. Navigation options have also been expanded. Wi-Fi + Cellular versions support GPS systems, Galileo, QZSS and GLONASS.
The set of sensors is the same for all versions of the device:
  • 3-axis gyroscope;
  • barometer;
  • accelerometer;
  • ambient light sensor.

iPad Pro 2018 battery life

According to official data, the gadget in question is equipped with lithium polymer batteries:
  1. iPad Pro 11 inches -29.37 Wh.
  2. iPad Pro 12.9 inches - 36.71 Wh.
The developers assure that the device can work for up to 10 hours with Wi-Fi connected and simultaneously playing video or listening to music. Wi-Fi + Cellular versions can last about 9 hours on a single charge. The numbers are quite solid. But is everything so good in reality?

Let's take a look at the test results of the 11-inch version of the tablet, which only supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The gadget's load meant watching videos with 720p quality at 100% brightness, activity Wi-Fi modules and Bluetooth, constant sending of data via e-mail and in social network Twitter. Here's what the tests showed:

iPad Pro 2018 battery test result

As you can see, the hero of our review lasted only 283 minutes or 4 hours 43 minutes. This is the worst performance among all tested devices. Moreover, the load from a constant connection to mobile networks is not taken into account. Most likely, the Wi-Fi + Cellular versions will show even weaker results.

Thus, we are forced to state that autonomy is the main disadvantage of the new line of iPads. The creators equipped their creation with advanced hardware, introduced the widest range of functionality, but did not think about the time the user would need during operation. Of course, you can resort to tricks: turn off background programs, turn down the brightness, periodically turn off the network, and so on. But is this why we buy premium gadgets? To tinker with the settings and artificially prolong their life? Hardly. So here we give the new iPad essentially a single, but bold minus.

Advantages and disadvantages of iPad Pro 2018

We have identified the following strengths and weaknesses of the device in question:

prosMinuses
Beautiful stylish design and compact dimensions.Frankly poor battery life, due to which the user will constantly have to think about charging.
Availability USB port Type-C, which allows you to connect your iPad to other gadgets (cameras, smartphones, monitors).
High quality edge-to-edge display. Thanks to this, the new iPad Pro turned out to be a full-fledged frameless device.Very high iPad cost Pro 2018; buy this gadget (even the most simple version) not everyone can do it.
Powerful technical components that allow the tablet to quickly perform any task: from web surfing to playing demanding games.A blatant display of cunning on the part of the developers. Yes, they released several versions of iPads to give you plenty to choose from. But it is unlikely that anyone will be satisfied with the lowest configurations with minimal memory and without support for mobile networks. Apple literally forces people to purchase versions with the maximum configuration: normal memory capacity and Cellular support. In addition, the stylus and keyboard, about which a lot was said at the presentation, will have to be purchased separately. All this pleasure will not be cheap, to put it mildly.
The device works on latest iOS 12 with increased speed, user-friendly interface and wide functionality.
The model is equipped with good cameras that support all modern functions (including FaceID on the front camera).

    To summarize, the iPad Pro 2018 could be an almost ideal tablet. It has all the prerequisites: modern design, frameless display, ergonomic design, advanced hardware and software. But everything is spoiled by its autonomy. Even the high price could be forgiven (given the status). But demanding that kind of money for a quickly discharging device is, to put it mildly, wrong. Although maybe in the future the developers will “work their magic” on optimization and make the tablet more durable. But for now, the new iPad Pro is a gadget that can do a lot, but not for long.

    Video reviews of iPad Pro 2018:

Ming-Chi Kuo, who ceased being an analyst at KGI Securities and took a similar position at TF International Securities, will introduce a frameless iPad Pro with Face ID before the end of the year. In addition to this, we are also waiting for tablets in a traditional form factor, but they are not so interesting.

We have structured the current information and added our own assumptions. We invite you to discuss the advisability of future purchase of the most innovative new iPad Pro.

What Apple will call its frameless tablet this year

Apple created quite a mess when it registered as many as 7 new iPads through the Eurasian Economic Commission (,). Here are all the model numbers we should see soon:

  • A1876
  • A1895
  • A1934
  • A1979
  • A1980
  • A2013
  • A2014

When model numbers differ by one digit, we are usually talking about versions of the tablet with and without an LTE module. Therefore, A2013 and A2014 may belong to the same frameless iPad Pro.

The A1979 and A1980 could be 12.9-inch iPad Pros in a traditional form factor, while the A1876, A1895, and A1934 are too obscure to say anything specific about.

Apple equates tablets to computers and traditionally does not give them special indexes. That's why we're just waiting for the iPad Pro, which will differ from its brothers in the line in screen diagonal.

There's no point in waiting for the iPad Pro X. X = 10, but Apple’s tablet anniversary will only be in 2020. SE in Lately is associated with budget devices, so the most innovative device in the line won’t be called that either.

When exactly will the frameless iPad Pro model be shown?

It is extremely difficult to predict the release of new iPads, because Apple has always presented them at completely different times:

  • iPad: April 2010
  • iPad 2: March 2011
  • iPad 3: March 2012
  • iPad 4 and iPad mini: November 2012
  • iPad Air and iPad mini 2: November 2013
  • iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3: October 2014
  • iPad mini 4: September 2015
  • iPad Pro 12.9: November 2015
  • iPad Pro 9.7: March 2016
  • iPad 9.7: March 2017
  • iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Pro 12.9 2nd generation: June 2017
  • iPad 9.7 2nd generation: March 2018

The best and most likely time for the presentation of the new iPad Pro is in the summer-autumn of 2018, this is obvious. The only question is whether Apple will show them along with the new iPhones or not.

Apple usually registers devices with new versions of the OS. However, according to the same Eurasian Economic Commission, all new products will work on iOS 11. And this is strange.

On the one hand, Apple could simply change this unprincipled tradition. On the other hand, this may indicate an earlier presentation of the new iPad Pro, which will be shown before September 12 (that's when we will see the official iOS 12).

We are inclined to the first option, because the height of summer is not best time for the presentation of the frameless iPad Pro, and without an event (like new ones) it is also unlikely to be rolled out.

We wait or September 12 along with new iPhones, or in October-November at a separate event dedicated not only to tablets, but also to some other additional devices. The latter is more likely.

What will change in the design of the latest Apple tablet?

We call the new iPad Pro frameless only conditionally. It will still have frames around the screen that will allow you to comfortably hold the tablet in your hands. However, their size will decrease, and this will be especially noticeable at the top and bottom edges in a portrait orientation of the device.

Another confirmation of this was the research of developer Stephen Troughton-Smith, who found the AvatarKit framework in the iOS 12 code, which is responsible for the operation of Animoji.

How the iPad Pro package will change this year

Of course, most of us would like to get an Apple Pencil or Smart Keyboard included with the iPad Pro. However, we highly doubt that the company will be generous and put the first or second in the box.

Most likely, the changes will affect the power supply. In a box with iPhone Apple He's been using the most common 5V and 1A charger for eleven years now. This is how we charged the original iPhone in 2007, and it continues to help us charge the iPhone X battery in 2018. It's a failure.

The most interesting thing is that the current iPhone 8 (Plus) and iPhone X support fast charging. But to implement it, you need to additionally purchase a power supply from a MacBook and lightning cable to USB-C.

But this year everything could change in better side. Apple may start bundling iPhone new 18W power supplies with USB-C interface. This also tells us that the box will also contain a Lightning to USB Type-C cable, which can be connected to the new MacBook without adapters.

But what does this have to do with the new iPad Pro? Similar power supply may end up in his box. It may differ in power, but the company will definitely switch to the USB-C connector, which has become especially relevant for it after MacBook Pro 2015.
